Recommend Me an Oxford Boot or Shoe to Wear With Jeans

Hi all,

I want to buy a pair of oxfords (preferably boots with the oxford look) to wear with Jeans. I buy a lot of my jeans/clothes from Express and all their models seem to wear nice pairs that compliment the jeans well. Here are a few photos for reference:








The shoes shouldn't be too fancy so that they look out of place with jeans and also should have that sort of "worn" appearance to them. Under $100 would be nice but I don't mind paying up to $150. Any sugesstions?

Thats a pretty narrow price range for what most of us consider holy grail boots my man.

Please elaborate. Do you mean that any shoe within that price range is cheap, or what? Or, is it impossible to find just like the Holy Grail? lol.

those are not oxford boots. Look up "oxford vs blucher" or something to find out what an oxford shoe is. Oxford boots are very rare.

Save up a bit till your price range is $200-300, then ask about boots in the "streetwear shoes and boots thread" or the "ultimate noob thread".

Pardon my inability to differentiate between specific types of shoes, but since I have a pair of Florsheim oxford dress shoes, and the ones depicted here in these pictures look similar, I assumed these could be called oxfords as well, or at the least, 'oxford-like.' What exactly would you label the shoes in these pictures then?

What I mean to say is that those boots (if that is what they are) are very similar to Wings + Horns boots. Which run >$500.

If you do pick up boots that look like this at say....aldo or even worse Banana Republic...you will most likely spend $200 for something that won't look as good and only last 8 months to a year....at best.

Ah, I see what you mean. Well, as much as I'd love to pay that much for a pair, I currently cannot so I would have to settle for the much cheaper kind. I know, you get what you pay for. for example, I found these http://www.amazon.com/ALDO-Horsford-...pd_sbs_shoe_32 and they are well inside my price range. If worn only seldom, do you still think they will only last 8 months?

just boots. The lacing is blucher style though, so i guess they could be called "blucher boots" as opposed to "oxford boots".

as i said, look up the difference between an "oxford" (or balmoral) and a "derby" (or blucher) style lacing.

^ I don't like their design but if you do than thats your thing. I don't have personal experience with Aldo but from what I've heard....6 months top...and from what I've tried on....very uncomfortable. I would suggest saving that money until you can afford something used that will last you twice as long and look twice as good.

Fair enough. Can you provide some links then of what you would deem as a complimentary shoe for jeans (similar if not identical to the ones in the pictures) at any price?

they'll probably last longer than 6 months but that's not the point. You will most certainly be disappointed with how they look and feel in person; the leather is plasticky and the shape generally doesn't look that nice without the lighting.

if you can afford $100-150 after however long you've been saving (or not), double that time so your budget is $200-300. Then look for shoes which retail for $500 which are on sale.

anyway, all further questions to the threads i mentioned above.

What kind of shoes or boots are you looking for? That amazon link shows boots totally different than the pics above. If you're just looking for mid-range dress shoes and don't have something specific in mind, find a pair of allen edmonds on sale and call it a day. They'll at least be more wearable than those Aldos.

Many people on this forum don't like J. Crew because of their quality issues. I have special access to J. Crew for a fraction of the price most people pay...I have this shoe...it looks great...worn it over a year more than once a week in the cool and cold months. Completely satisfied. Looks great with jeans IMO.

Wait for a 20% off coupon and grab these. I don't think you will be unsatisfied. Or look into clarks...they are favored more on SF at similar pricepoints.
