I never thought that a hole in the ground could be 'designed', but I guess that makes sense. Do you ever feel remorse for having fucked up God's creation?

a lot more work goes into creating mines than you think. there's a great deal of effort put into locating the resources you're digging for, then there's optimizing the shape of the mine to maximize the ore/whatever you're digging for while minimizing the amount of waste rock you pull out.

Exploration geologists spend weeks living in a tent out in the bush - they love it, just like camping they tell me.

i'm working on my BS in geology right now, and probably grad school until i get my phd, and likely going into research. of course, i have been warned that for most jobs you're still going to be behind a computer for more time than being outside, but i've also heard stories about being paid 300 bucks a day (straight outta school) camping in the western US searching for geothermal energy.

What about financial planning and getting your CFP instead? You seem to greatly enjoy interaction with others and tangible results. I changed majors a few times in college and ended up in Finance. I was second guessing this decision until I had an internship at a wirehouse the summer of my junior year. I loved every day in the office. My mentors had me involved in every aspect of the business and I learned an immense amount that summer. One thing I learned was that your relationship with your client is #1. I love meeting new people and forming new relationships so this was right up my alley. Every day in the office was something new. Many days were spent traveling and meeting with our clients. Long story short, I decided to do it for a living. Hopefully you'll take this path under consideration as well. Good luck!
