Quilted Jackets

Thanks! I'd never heard of them... Looking through their site, the Ampton jacket looks perfect...



Anyone familiar with Waterville sizing? It doesn't appear they offer this in a long... I'm probably somewhere between a 50-52 (US 40-42).

They make for a number of other brands but don't really push their own label.

Looking at the pics on finaest.com, the waterville jacket looks ridiculous. Of course, that whole site seems like a master class in how to take unflattering pictures... WTF?

Ended up going with that PRL jacket. It's nice... A little roomy in the body, but nothing a minor alteration can't fix.

That time of year. Looking for a quilted jacket. Slim fit / tapered, something that I can layer (under), a poly exterior (no wool or cotton), buttons and zip. Maybe hacking / ticket pocket or patch, <$400? I've searched high & low. Seeking something between a sport coat look and jacket.

Is this stuff crapola (Massimo Dutti)? I like the style.

Any reccos?

SF summer has had me in light quilted jackets. My favorite design is by RL. I think they came out around 2005. The one I bought then has held up really well despite lots of use and regular washes. (Dry cleaning is specified, prob. because of the suede, but I just machine wash once a year or so.) In the US they were olive, navy, black, and a tan that's a lot darker than the one below, Seems like they're still available on Rakuten, where the model is called "Fischer." Pics taken from there:


The black US version had brown suede like the others. I prefer two-way zips, which this has, and how it goes all the way up the collar. But sometimes I wish it had snaps instead, like a Beaver of Bolton one I have. The Polo has the adv. of a fleece-lined torso and exterior pockets, as well as a large internal pocket that's great for carrying a book for the subway, etc.

I kind of like those emptym - i have just purchased a slim fit barbour heritage one that will probably work in fall and start winter.

Would you mind posting a fit picture of yours RL? And if you still own the BOB one? Always nice to get inspiration.

Sure. Might take a couple days though. We have some family staying over.

I wear the polo ones w/ jeans mostly. Corduroy and moleskin in the winter. The BoB one is long enough to wear over a sport coat, but I almost never do that.

In case anyone's wondering about sizing, I'm 6' about 175 pounds, and all of these are size M, except the first one, which is S. The BoB one has a longer body, which allows it to cover a suit or sport coat. But its arms are a tad short for my ideal. Even the polo in S has longer arms, as seen in this pic my daughter took of me (just before her 4th bday):

Here's a polo M w/ an arm down. It has snaps at the cuffs to make them snug, as does the BoB.

My ideal would have the fleece torso lining of the Polo and the snaps of the BoB, but continuing up the collar. One nice thing about the Polo is that the neck is relatively snug. Keeps you warm w/o a scarf. I hate wide necks on jackets and zip up workout clothes.

Thanks! I definitely prefer the three RL, they suit you very much. I think the longer body of the last blue makes it appear less fitted.

I have similar sleeve issues as you with mine Barbour - for now i just roll up the sleeves as paying a tailor to shorten the sleeves would cost almost as much as what i paid for the jacket.

Thanks. I actually prefer the longer length of the Polo sleeves, at least the S. The M might be 1/2" long. But I think outwear sleeves should be pretty long, so they doesn't expose one's wrists when raising or bending one's arms.
