"search engine"

I'm looking for a program or application or whatever that would like periodically search specific web page for a given word and after finding it (the page is being updated), it would send me a notification to my e-mail. Is there such a thing?
How could this possibly be solved? Thanks

"no idea" "should be easy, though"

I believe you can do this with google...I get a periodic email when my name or the names of my businesses show up anywhere online but I'm not certain as to how you make this specific to a particular page... I'll see if I can find it...

http://www.google.com/alerts This is the area I was speaking of but it doesn't appear that you can use it for specific web addresses

I think you can by using standard google syntax; if you wanted to search SF for "kiton", you could just make your search terms: "site:styleforum.com kiton".

Try it and preview the results...it doesn't seem to work.

I think google reader used to have a function like this but they depreciated it. I remember some news articles/blog posts about it where they mentioned alternative services that might be worth looking into...

I would have thought it is sort of useful function for which there just does not seem to be a proper application. Thanks for the replies anyway.

I've used http://www.changedetection.com/ in the past. Edit: There's a few other free services (eg. http://www.watchthatpage.com/ ); I'd try signing up with at least two to start (to make sure that you are definitely getting all changes) and then filter it down to one service when you're confident that it's accurate. Edit: Just noticed you want to scan for a particular word. These services just show if a page has been updated.

It's because we are on styleforum.net not styleforum.com.
