anyone check out this mac coat in person? I'd appreciate an opinion on the quality and fit

In store is 450. You may want to call and order for them to price match. The SA on the floor were telling me that they're selling stupidly fast, so you may want to act fast.

What is your thought on Club Monaco Wright and Grant suits in term of quality/style? I am looking for some staple suits (so navy or charcoal gray in a little conservative cut)

Great OTR suits (both fit and quality), especially since you can find them all on sale at some point +20% w/ student ID

Thanks for the info. Do you know if the construction is partially or half canvassed in Wright suit? And how does the size tend to run? I am getting them for around $200 included tax.

sizing is TTS (I'm a 42R in J Crew, CM, and Steven Alan suits).

My Wright is half-canvassed I believe

How is the overall length of the Varsity Jacket. I really want to scoop one up in a large. I'm 6'3  with a 41 inch chest. I'm afraid that the jacket may be cut short  to cater to the average American who is under 6 foot and thus be way too short for me to wear in public.

The measurements of the jacket is right there in the link I provided.

FYI: The Wright is the less conservative of the two cuts. Narrower lapel, shorter in the body, shorter sleeves, buttons at a higher point. Also keep in mind with CM suits that the vast majority have surgeons cuffs, so it won't be worth your time/dollars to shorten the arms if they aren't right.

That being said, I love the look and feel of my wright suits. I have the navy hopsack from Spring 2012 I think, and the grey flannel from Fall 2011.

oh and Grant has a bit fuller cut in the chest, and narrower in the waist.

Very good half-canvassed suits and on the slim side of things (a tad slimmer than J.Crew I believe.) The cuff buttons are functional, which may be a boon or a bane. CM doesn't do brand-name fabric like J.Crew, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's inferior. An especially nice thing for shorter guys is that the button stance on their short suits is higher than J.Crew, making the upper body look more proportionate.

One more thing which may or may not bother you: ALL their jackets are half-canvassed. J.Crew's Ludlow, contrary to popular belief, only offers half-canvassed construction in their 'flagship' suits. Therefore it just makes it easier for me to buy from Club Monaco knowing exactly what I'm getting.

I'm just under 6'4, wear a 36/34 and the length of their pants work fine for me. The casual style slim fit button up shirts are a bit too short to tuck in usually, and I've got 4 or 5 of them in large. I don't believe they offer a 36/36, J-Crew does on their website however, which may offer similar items.
