I'm getting ready to order several MTM shirts through moderntailor. Currently, my winter attire will consist of shirts and sweaters. My job allows me the flexibility of business casual. TNext year there will be sportcoats/blazers in the rotation.

Until that point, I need help deciding what to complement vests and sweaters/cardigans. In my experience, button-collars stay put with little effort. Are button down collars a faux pas with the types of layering I intend to do? Sadly, from a trad perspective Fusser mentions the functionality that buttons down collars provide for polo players. My arse will be planted in the office past sunset often times. Clearly, this is a faux pas. Should I go with what works? What to do, what to do?!

Button down collars are fine, especially for business casual.

Button down collar shirts are ideal for biz-casual, as they less formal then turn down collars. Sweaters and cardigan are only suited to biz-casual and casual work environments; hence, work well with button down collar shirts.

However, I would avoid such shirts, if pairing with a waistcoat. Although, if a vest sweater then a suitable option.

Thanks for the input all. One detail I neglected. Are pocket protectors a matter of preference or offer some traditional functionality?

Now you're just being obtuse.
