Can I purchase long jeans and cut short to get the same result as having short jeans?

Hi All,

I hope the topic make sense and doesn't make me sound like a bit of an idiot...

I am a pretty short guy and normally have to cut my jeans even if they are the short length version. I recently found a pair of jeans I really like online, but for my size, they only have the long version in stock.

My question is, are long jeans designed in a way that if cut short they would look the same as the short jeans or are they designed so that the design 'elements' are relative to the lenth of the jeans (eg: if there was a rip in a jean or a fade, that rip or fade might be lower on a longer jean)?

jtme - ignore these low-lives. I find it hilarious that they would much rather type up equivalent lengths of sarcastic insults than a sentence or two that will actually help a newbie out. This is a forum, not a high school playground. Though I suspect most of these people were probably pushed around a little too much on there back in the days to realize that. What you are referring to is called hemming. Any tailor can do this. However, if the jeans is not straight cut, meaning it's not the same length throughout the leg, then you might have an issue. Jeans will usually be labelled as straight, tapered or bootcut/flare. Hope that helped.

People can get seriously turned off by this forum cause you all can be dicks to everyone when you got nothing to really show for it..This forum has started to such major balls cause of everyones superior attitude..I stopped reading this crappy section and went into the Men's style part since those men have much more respect for everyone and their questions.

to answer his/her question.

yes you can buy jeans and hem them in order to make them fit better. however, if they are heavily distressed, im talking about hole n stuff that are supposed to be on the knee or something, the "elements" may be in the wrong place. i'd suggest getting some non distressed denim and just wearing it in yourself, which makes the jeans reflective of yourself, not someone else. just my 2 cents.
