Road trip - NY-DC-Chicago

Is this doable within 2 weeks, or is it going to be way too rushed? ~6 people in a minivan, all late twenties, not into the whole clubbing scene thing though. Anything we /absolutely/ have to see along the way?

Two weeks is fine. Figure 4.5-5 hours between NY and DC, and DC to Chicago is not too bad a haul... last time I did it I left at 11am, stopped for a quick meal around 3, and made it by 10pm. Much easier too if you rotate the driving.

I recommend the northern route across Ohio. Marginally more interesting than the endless cornfields of central OH and IN.

In DC and NY, you'll probably want to park at an outlying station and invest in day passes for the metro/subway unless one of you has ample driving experience in those cities.

You're not road-tripping from Singapore to NYC, are you ? ? ? That could make the 2week target a little difficult. I'd stop in Atlantic City on the way to DC. In NY - if you only have time for one or two truly touristy things, I recommend Ellis Island. There are a number of other threads for food and shopping, so I won't belabor those. In Chicago, if you only have time for one or two truly touristy things... take an architecture tour. The boat tours may be over by now, but there are walking tours. DC is pretty obvious. The smithsonian and the national gallery are both awesome in addition to the Gov't buildings.

Would concur with Ron on chicago stuff, and add that you should do a deep dish pizza here, ny/new haven pizza in NYC (or new haven, quickly check out Yale?). Dc museums are nice, but hang out ingeorgetown. If you end up doing this pm me before you get tochicago and I can get you more personalized to-do while your here.

I did the drive from nyc to chicago in 13 hours.

i would stop by in philly and go nyc-->philadelphia-->dc philly's on the way from nyc to dc and there are things to see there
