Fu** off, Wayne Rooney

So it's been confirmed that Rooney is forcing his way out of Manchester United. He was always easier to love than Ronaldo but, as Federico Macheda pointed out, is a bit of a chav.

Where will the little troll end up? Will Barca sacrifice some of Bojan's and Pedro's playing time for a sure thing? Will Real Madrid offer Benzema in part exchange? Or will there be panic on the streets of Carlise, Dundee, Dublin, Humberside (and Manchester) as he crosses town to FC Mercenaries?

Times certainly have changed. I remember wanting to do a case study on Man U's financial statements in b-school, because they were, well...as big as it got (and publicly traded).

Is he going back to Disney? I know the sequel was pretty bad, but the toy rights must be worth a fortune.

who, Rooney? If Rooney didn't play football, he'd be potted in a garden somewhere, standing stock-still with the rest of the garden gnomes.

Sadly, no. He's been out of sorts since the World Cup, but he's never been the most consistent player. When he hits a patch of form, he's frightening. (And not just aesthetically.)

I say good riddance. And this is from a ManU fan, who recognizes that he is probably the best player in the team, though he's been pants since the Bayern Munich game. The unsavoury public displays of stupidity (mouthing off about fans to television cameras, urinating in the street) as well as his infidelity, is not what I expect from a player in my team. So we don't win the Premiership for X number of years perhaps, so be it.

This whole thing has me shook for the last couple of days. I've accepted that he's going and I hope they get good value for him to rebuild the team. I'm just worried about the longer term implications from a player recruiting stand point...having lost Tevez, Ronaldo and now Rooney, you need players WANTING to come to to United because it's still one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Thought I read somewhere he's buying himself out of his contract for $8million.

That's it?

I wonder where he'd go. Someone mentioned Man City earlier but with Tevez and Adebayor, I don't really see the need for them to take on even more contract. Maybe Liverpool now that they have new ownership if they want to run him alongside Torres? Just not sure if he's the kind of player that would fit a system like Barca. Should be interesting at least to see how it plays out.

i caught a few minutes of the west brom game and he really looked desultory. it wasn't even a lack of form, just looked like a total lack of effort. I'm no passionate Man U fan, in fact I rather dislike them, and have disliked him as well, but I think he's sort of a sympathetic figure somehow. The pressure there is immense, and the fans are really fickle with their players. He's like a less polished, much dumber (!) Becks. Basically ridiculed by the fan base at this point, and clueless on what to do about it. Is it any wonder he wants a smaller stage? Particularly if he has doubts whether he can actually return to form.
