Would a tailor be able to do this?

It seems possible, but it's hard to tell how the epaulets are attached. You can just buy it and bring it to your tailor. If he/she doesn't think it's possible, just return it. I agree, the epaulets make the jacket too trendy or doorman-ish.

Very easy to do! However my concern would be if the fabric under the epaulets has been flattened due to the attached epaulets or pressing of same, or if there is an indent where the button was attached. Even so - a good steaming should raise the nap of the fabric.

I just bought this coat and I really like the epaulets, they lie flat and don't ruin the shoulder line. This coat has very very high arm holes and doesn't even need any slimming, fit me perfect off the rack with a medium thick sweater. I forgot how good quality and value Zara can be, the fabric has a very soft touch. The tailor might have to open the sleeve to shoulder line to take it out, the epaulets sorta comes out of the stitch. there are no bumps or marks under the epaulets FYI and with a little water the button holes should shrink back so don't worry there. I'm really happy with this purchase so far. May I ask why you don't like the epaulets? I find it brings a nice balance to the coats lower buttons and I normally don't go for the epaul's either, in fact it's my first coat with them and I think this jacket would be more dull with out them. Actually it crossed my mind to alter the length and make it more of a regular just cover the ass winter-ish sport coat. Thoughts??? Since I already have two more SB 3/4 coats in black and gray. I thought the camel would better suit the cold but sunny daytime and prevent my other jackets from the suns color drain.

Don't shorten it. Visually I think it needs the space between the bottom button to the hem. If you shorten it it will look "altered".

Maybe splayed slightly apart like a lot of DB SB's are configured, I guess more around the nipple areas, mid breast pocket.

Just don't. Stop. End of story. Trying to radically change one garment into a completely different garment is never a good idea, and that one is just completely unsuited to it. You would need to somehow remove the pockets, move them up, magically make the cut from the old ones disappear, Move the buttoning, narrow it to bring it in proportion, so on and so forth. What you want to do involves substantial amounts of reweaving and tailoring by an expert. For what it would cost you, you could probably get several top end bespoke jackets exactly in the style you would like. And your coat would still show marks from the alteration.

The pockets are in the same place, basically, I don't see the need to move them.

the problem is the bottom buttonhole. you can't move it. and, if you shortened the coat more that just a little bit, the balance would appear off.

I'd be very careful buying this if you insist on removing the epaulettes. It looks like a fleece from the pics and depending on how it's made and pressed, there could be permanent marks. Once fleece is damaged it won't get back to shape, with or without water. Just saying.

The epaulet comes out of the shoulder stitch like they were sewn at the same time.

Incidentally, can someone explain the word "double-breasted" to these people?
