There have been some good suggestions so far, both the crazy and the mature ones...

Be as selfish as you want, bear in mind that I´m talking about the million left after paying the mortgage, all debts, and giving a large sum to family and friends in need.

Spend it on your Mom. Take her on a dream shopping trip. Also buy her lifetime spa treatment.

If I had an extra million that I absolutely HAD to "blow" I would use it to fund a number of insanely luxurious vacations and I would also hire the best Butler and Valet I could find...

My cousin is on the team designing/building the spaceship.

There are rumors of building a space station as a type of space resort with the spaceships shuttling people back and forth.

I'd lease a penthouse in a hotel--Hotel de Crillon in Paris perhaps--and have stores deliver cases of vintage champagne and chartreuse to me. A few trips to Lanvin, Camps de Luca and maybe a party or two, and I think I'll be in the negative by then.
