Coping with water spots (Raleigh Denim)

New to raw denim, after being talked into it by several friends and a salesperson at Barney's. Started with a pair of Raleighs because I like my birth state.

First or second day, I got a small spot of either detergent or something nature-related just below the knee. Left a dark spot, which I dabbed up carefully with some water. Promptly forgot about it.

Two months in, and I'm noticing that there's a quarter-sized spot right below the knee. It looks, well, worn, with less texture and a duller color. Somewhat lighter.

My question: is this the kind of thing that will get better, or worse, if I continue to wait to wash? Or is this going to stay pretty much how it is -- and has likely been all along -- and I just leaned a really important lesson about raw denim and "character"?

I'd say you learned a lesson about raw denim and "character." Up until I saw this part of your post I thought you were missing the point. Anyway, just go with it and get used to it.
