I've always found this interesting. Whenever I'm dating a girl it seems like I'm beating other chicks off with a stick, but when I'm single random opportunities don't present themselves as often. I dress well, stay and shape, and am confident. The only variable is my relational status.
I think it has to do with how men and women gauge attractiveness. If you line up ten girls along a wall, most men will be able to reach consensus on which ones they find most attractive without the help of each other. Yes, there will be some variance- I normally go for more petite girls and I have friends that like curvier girls or taller girls. Regardless, a judgment can be made instantaneously based solely on looks, the vibe of the girl, and personal preference.
I think women are almost universally influenced by the preferences of other women. When a guy sees a hot girl with a decent looking guy, he thinks I'm better looking than him what does he have. A girl sees the same pair and thinks, I want that guy because she wants that guy. The actual traits of the guy have nothing to do with it. Likewise, a heart throb celebrity is hyper attractive to girls mostly because other girls like him. If he worked at a gas station or suddenly fell out of favor he would instantly be less desirable. Women are more competitive than men.
So what does it mean? How is this actionable? Date multiple women at once and you'll always have fresh options at your disposal. Make yourself a scarce resource. It's economics pure and simple. Women want what other women want. The difficulty of obtaining an item has more to do with its value than the item itself.
Anybody else observed this? It was an ahah moment for me, I think I realized it subconsciously in the past, but all of the bullshit we see about true love and chance in pop culture prevented me from really putting my thoughts into words earlier.
