Scariest Foot Path In Europe (Video)

El Camino del Rey in Spain. It gets uncomfortable to watch at around the 4:00 mark. O/T Bonus vid. Camera attached to balloon reaches 100,000 ft and records blackness of space. This is a really cool video. http://vimeo.com/15091562

Serious balls of steel right there. I'm always astounded by how these walkways were constructed in the first place. Apparently this one was built in 4 years, starting in 1901. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caminito_del_Rey

YIKES. People actually do this stuff for fun?! The fact that people built the paths is amazing but walking on what's left of them seems...insane

This path is in a state of disrepair making it only the more dangerous.

Why do they always have to ruin cool videos by adding shitty background music?

That looks incredible! If I'm in the area this summer, I think that I'll have to give it a go.

~710 and 820 are where I would lose it, were I to walk it.

You think that's scary, you should try walking through Manchester wearing a PSG kit.

These are both really awesome.

Y'all a bunch of sissies. They're wearing harnesses (clearly shown in some parts of video but not others). Not a big deal imo.

insane. i felt like my own ass was going to fall off at a couple of sections. and even if they were wearing harnesses (which i didn't see any indication of up until the 4:42 mark when i stopped watching), the amount of slack in the guide line which i imagine they'd be clipped into would make getting back onto the route very difficult in some points. this definitely makes Half Dome's ladder route look like a walk in the park. one of these days, would like to try some of Italy's Via Ferratas which are supposed to be similar.

and the video is very interesting. the guy has to have it mounted on some helmet based suspension system because there is virtually no bounce in the video even when he's ascending stairs.

Yeah, I agree, I would totally do something like this with a harness. It would be scary, but did not look horrible. I'm not the "best" with heights, and a couple of those spots would scare me a lot... but only 2-3 of them where they were walking on the little beams. I think if I practiced a little bit on something smaller I could do it. I remember doing walks on beams 40ft in the air at a summer camp, it was scary but nothing horrible. In reality, no "tougher" than this, although of course if you were to fail there, the harness catches you, and if you fall there you maybe die XD

The whole thing seems like a poor substitute for rock climbing imo. Doesn't take a whole lot of skill and even overweight people can do it (one of the guys had a huge belly). I need to start climbing again...

This is a different concept entirely. Here we're looking at scenery, a bit of vertigo, adrenaline, and having fun with the heights.
