Professional Travel Crew: What's your carry-on of choice? - Page 6

I prefer shoulder bags because you can fit much more in them. The weight is a relative non-issue if you pack smartly. I've done 10 days in Europe with a bag...much more convenient since the roads were all uneven anyway. Easier up and down stairs, trains, etc as well.

I went into a Bag & Baggage today and checked out the Rimowa and B&R cases. The Rimowas are cool on the outside but really lack anything on the inside. Its just a big mesh zippered compartment. No organization at all. The B&R had a fold out suit/hangar compartment and even extended width wise to fit more crap. Nice organizational pockets on the inside as well. They made a 20" but it was 16" wide which is too wide for some international flights I believe.

Sorry to vent, I had wine with lunch.
I go whenever I see someone with a roller briefcase or backpack, and I see it often on sidewalks and elsewhere.

I think it's easy to be fashionable and hip if you are traveling really really light for short periods. Or if you have door to door car service arranged.

I have my manservant carry it. Don't you? What, you don't have a manservant?

Just pulled the trigger on the Pelican 1690 for all my optometry equipment. Will be doing rotations and what not with it. Is this what you guys mean by professional travel crew? I've been told National Geographic crews use Pelican for all their stuff. And the military. I thought about Rimowa but was just way too expensive.

Slightly off topic, but has anyone seen Eric Ripert's custom Louis Vuitton knife case? http://gourmandsreview.com/blog/?p=815

If I use a carry-on rolling bag, I use an Andiamo Valero 1 suiter, which is a tank. But most of my carry on travel is done with a shoulder bag. My favourite is a black Hartmann Tri-Zip with 3 compartments that butterfly open flat (and have tie downs), a large pouch on the outside surface and a sleeve pouch and smaller zipup compartment on the inside surface. To replace the crappy Hartmann shoulder strap, I use a great one from Red Ox, that is very comfortable and clings tenaciously to my shoulder. It is amazing how much stuff I can get into this bag, and if I don't have to pack a suit, I can travel for a week with it. I also have a similar, but 2 compartment with a third smaller compartment bag from B&R. Both bags are discontinued, but can be picked up on eBay for a song. For those of you who haven't tried travelling with just one shoulder bag, check out http://www.onebag.com - it could change your life!

If you want to get away from black ballistic, try the Orvis Battenkil roll ons, the suiter works very well. B
