how much Should it cost

to have the sleeves on a tweed blazer shortened by an inch? Nothing complicated, there's definately enough room at the wrist (though I guess the buttons will inevitably have to be reset). I have a feeling my tailor is pulling a fast one on me...

Based on other tailoring I have had done - I'm guessing a tailor would charge $25 - but that's just a guess. Yes - it seems like a lot to me too, but its a free market.

$25 to $45 in my experience. It's not a complicated alteration, but it does take time.

$10 -15 in my neck of the woods.

In West L.A. my tailor charges $24 for altering the sleeve length on a jacket.

I think it depends on what has to happen with the buttons. If they don't need to be moved it could be 20 or under. If they're working button holes and the movement is at the shoulder it could be exorbitant.

For Cambridge Mass, I'd highly recommend Rizzos in Harvard Square either for first rate alterations or for bespoke. He's done alterations for me that I wouldn't dream of asking an alteration tailor out of fear of a butcher job, and one bespoke suit that I'm extremely happy with.

I'd suggest contacting some tailors in your locality and getting prices from them. But, as others have said, expect to spend between $10-50. I just picked up a jacket of mine that needed some shortening and I paid $15 at a local alterations tailor.

For sleeve shortening and working buttons I pay around $54.

Per sleeve or per jacket?

$20 here, on a linen Brioni. Non-working buttons.
