Great Quality Alternative to Belstaff Leather Jackets

I thought I'd post this for forum members interest. Here's a manufacturer in the UK selling great quality leather jackets at a great price. Styled on the Belstaff Cougar and Panther jackets these jackets are fantastic. I bought a Cougar or Clooney style jacket and it is very impresive. I've been following the progress of Saffi's creations on FJ's for some time, and decided to buy a real Belstaff Brad for the time being. The antiquing of the leather is just not the same as the real Belstaff's. There is something about Belstaff's process and durability of the finish that can't easily be duplicated unless you can source from the same tannery. Belstaff's are also very light in weight, so they are much easier to wear more often than the heavier leathered copies are

and by durability I mean ability to avoid water stains, which Belstaff's do remarkably well because they impregnate the leathers with wax and other protective coatings, so the finish will last, unlike the untreated leather the imitators use which will stain in the rain and will not age nearly as well

that said, some of Saffi's/Tannery's latest are much better than his first attempts, and I am thinking of having him make up a standard cafe racer in the antique camel leather because it's so hard to find anything similar that fits for what he can deliver it for

for those who don't want to pay for a Belstaff and aren't as particular about the leather, the Tannery's offering can't be beat for the money

p.s. can you post a close-up picture of the leather on your jacket in sunlight? and also comment about what happens with water stains (or do you just avoid wearing it in the rain?)

Norcal - I would agree with what your saying. Inevitably you do tend to get what you pay for. However there is a massive price difference between Saffi's jackets and Belstaff. To answer Clarksdb's question on price; they sell for £169 so when you compare that to what...£750 - £1,000 for a Belstaff it becomes a no-brainer in terms of what you get for your money. Of course there will be some that say why go for an look-alike, just save up for the real thing. I personally cannot justify £1,000 on a single item of clothing which is why I'm one of Saffi's customers. Others will have different (and equally valid) opinion of course.

I would say mine is a spring summer jacket - They have a lining only not quilting or any such luxury !

Of course layering up always helps.

I was thinking of getting one. I'm in metro Atlanta and our winters often dip down to 20-30 and occasionally into the teens. I layer but I also get really cold in winter. Hoping one of these would be warm enough.

about your cologne jacket from The Tannery and I am wondering what color your purchased that jacket in and how you went about purchasing it ? Is the Ebay store the only way or is there a direct website for the US?
