Wool fibers coming off...? Whats going on?

::confused face::

I had brought a RLBL Anthony suit sometime last December while still in school, and never had much of a chance to wear it until recently. I noticed upon close examination that some of the wool fibers on the sleeves were coming off - they appear as very thin and fine white fibers that does not easily pull off.

What should I do about the fibers? I had just taken it to a rather highly rated cleaner a week ago, and thought it would resolve this problem. Should I take some sort dustet/adhesive and comb down the jacket? How should I prevent this (its not happening to any of my other suits...)

Your expertly advice is much appreciated.

Could you post pics? A little bit of fuzzing is perfectly normal with any wool fabric, but it's hard to tell from your description just how bad it is.

And the image Animal Thug posted above is a clothes shaver, it's used to shave off any of these protruding strands.

What colour is the sleeve lining? It sounds like migration.

Would a razor blade help? I sometimes take it to my wool pants when there's pilling.

As promised, here are some pics to aid with the diagnoses:

Please note the the majority of these "chaffings" are occuring on the backside of the upper arm or elbow area.

Thanks again!

Looks like migration of the sleeve lining along the elbow seam- what colour is the sleeve lining? If it is, a tailor can take the lining out, overlock the seams and put it back. Or replace the lining entirely.

Yes, I have noticed on some of my jackets at stress points I see pills of the lining pulling through the wool. Can't be a good sign.

Thanks for the quick diagnosis. The sleeve lining colors are indeed white (pinstriped actually) and is Bemberg Cupro.

Typically how much would such an operation be? From the relining to the replacing of the sleeve linings?

This is migration as JD stated. In fact, Jeff has diagnosed this problem for me before without any pictures.

I agree that its very bothersome. It also seems that re-lining will be needed. I'm just confused how this is happening with Bemberg; IME, this has only happened with poly linings. In fact, one of the express reasons I always specify Bemberg is htat this won't happen.

No, no, the whole jacket. But when I looked under the pocket flaps and told them they missed them, they wanted to charge me another $100. I declined.
