Campbell Cooper Waxed Jackets?

Does anyone have any experience with Campbell Cooper waxed motorcycle jackets? They seem like a good deal, although maybe too good to be true... http://www.campbellcooper.com/#/vincent/4541042557

I just came across the Campbell motorcycle jacket..and it really looks pretty descent for a nice price... It would be very interesting to know if it really stands well as a wax jacket.. Anybody else owns a similar jacket?

I emailed them 2 days ago and they have yet to get back to me.

Do they ship to US?

I like a bunch on their site.

Yeah that was part of my email to them. I also asked for some better pictures, but they still haven't responded.

Don't know anything about them, but they have an ebay store and offer shipping to the US.
The hotmail email address seems kind of shady though.

i emailed them yesterday...asking about the motorcycle jacket (47 gbp and 6 for shipping to greece) and they answered pretty fast.. The pics of the site are not very clear... I have also found the ebay store ... and the seller (pretty much the same as the original's store)...is indicated as a valid seller.. My question definitely is about the quality of the product itself (in the site it is written about 12 oz heavyweight wax...and it is rather impressive...)

Anybody has bought a jacket from them ??(or any other product..) What do you think???

There have always been less expensive alternatives to Barbour. Waxed jackets were big in the UK in the 1980s on the back of the Sloane Ranger thing.

Looks like there are alternatives to Drizabone too.

Personally, I cannot stand waxed jackets.

I like some but a lot of them have that belted waist which to me comes off as a very feminine thing to have on a coat... I have seen 2 Belstaff and 1 Barbour which I really like except all 3 have the waist belt.

Whilst I haven't tried, or even seen, a Cambell Cooper jacket I have seen other cheaper waxed jacket brands, they are common in cheaper UK country stores. Generally they are not as good quality as Barbours, Cambell Cooper might be the exception to this, but I kind of doubt it.

I always hate it when people casually dismiss the garment the OP is asking about and recommend something 3x as expensive, but I have to say if you like that style of jacket get the Barbour, they are worth it.

I know people who have been regularly wearing the same jacket formore than 20 years. I have been wearing my current bedale for around four years and can confidently say that whilst no other garment I own could come close to surviving what I have put it through my barbour looks better now than it did when I bought it, and looks like it will easily survive another eight years of the same treatment.

Thought I'd bump this thread back to life as I've just taken delivery of a Campbell Cooper Wax jacket - It cost me £58 delivered.



Here's my review.

I own a Belstaff Trialmaster and have looked very closely at the Barbour International too. Now, when you consider a Belstaff is going to cost you around £350 and a Barbour £225 I sort of expected that the Campbell Cooper version would be a poor-mans version of the aforementioned icons of wax style. In many ways it is and in my opinion this is due to some silly details which I think the manufacturers could easily fix. Here's the main bug bears;

Fit : The cut of the jacket is very wide in the arms - The upper sleeves are very wide and it makes the jacket look to big, when actually in the body it's not that bad. The fit overall is definitely roomy rather than tailored.

Belt: Works fine but the buckle is awful - I don't understand why they can't use a decent brass buckle rather than the cheap nasty covered fabric effort

Pocket Poppers: For some reason they position the poppers in a very odd place on the pocket flaps - They look odd and I don't understand why they can't be positioned more like the Barbour. What is nice is a zipper under the right pocket

That's my mine gripes. On the plus side the wax cotton is good quality - not particularly waxy but a good weight. The lining is plain black so nothing fancy. It has a good double zipper with ring puller - which is further nod to Barbour. Shame they didn't use antique brass rather than bright shiny new hardware.

So that's about it. I bought this jacket becuase it was cheap and I wanted to try an experiment - I plan to 'vintage' this jacket and try to make it look like it's been owned by me for years. Whilst all wax jacket manufactures always state you shouldn't wash them I plan to do just that. here's my plan;

- Wash the jacket about 5 times in the machine with detergent
- Last wash add a touch of dye stripper
- Rough-up the fabric and hardware with light grade sandpaper
- Re-wax with a mix of parrafin wax and beeswax (90 to 10 mix)
- Allow to dry then rough with a hard bristle brush
- Re wax with Barbour thornproof dressing for the final touch

After all that and if it's still in one piece I'll take pics and post them up the site for comments (probably on my sanity for one thing !)

To just add to this post, after recieving my jacket I promptly set about trying to vintage it. After about 5 washes in the machine, a blast with my power washer and chucking it around my driveway here's the result;
