Wanted: advice for an acting audition - Page 2

Assuming there is a script and you receive some it (sides) -

- You MUST memorize it
- You need to decide how you want to play the role. You must make choices. How happy/sad is the person? Angry? Annoyed? What is their background? How did they get to the point in life they are at in the script? What do they want to have happen in the scene? What is the conflict point of the scene and how does it impact your character?

Directors will give you ideas on how to change ("more angry, more sad") - but they want you to have chosen a version for them to see. That's your audition.

Thanks for all the advice.

There was no script nor was there any sort of cold reading. I was asked to provide improvised scenes based on a few directions -- leading a charge under fire, fighting multiple attackers, taking someone hostage, shooting someone etc. It was fun however after I got home I suddenly thought of a hundred different ways I could have made it much better with a few clever lines and a few more gestures.

Maybe less than 50% chance that I will get called back, but definitely want to give it another go. Definitely considering acting classes if I can find them.

If you get a call back you'll be surely asked to improvise a peeled tangerine. Standard practice. Also, can you do an ink blot? What kind of ink are you? Think about it. Train yourself in being: -Household appliances: Vacuum cleaner, blender, foor processer, aga, etc.; -Colours: Mainly the hard ones in purple, orange and green, maybe some pastel inbetween; -Famous characters: Einstein, Mickey Mouse, Adolf Hitler (When in doubt; last one is the fallback); -Silent: Can you out-silence the director? He'd be mightely impressed; -More: More = more in acting. Be more; -Less: Sometimes less = more. See also the heading 'Silent'. Break a leg, as they say.
