George Cleverley Russian Leather - Page 3

As my shoemaker informed me today, Cleverley has a monopoly over this leather, not just the right of first refusal

In order for the authorized leather agent to sell it, Cleverley must give their permission.

Cleverley asks for the name of the shoemaker and client. If either are not in good standing with them, no sale

The first pair of Russian calf shoes I commissioned (a captoe oxford) wasn't until 1990. When they left New & Lingwood to start Cleverley in the early 1993 or so, their customers' lasts remained with N&L. Thus John Carnera made up a new last for me when I brought my trade to this new company. We continued to tweak it a bit over the years. MarquisMagic has posted a picture of the most recent Russian calf shoes they have crafted for me elsewhere in this thread.

You have more than one pair of Russian calf shoes?!?

(I probably should've guessed.)

Sorry for the necrobump, but for owners of Russian reindeer leather goods, how has it held up? Does the smell persist and does the leather develop a nice patina?

The aroma persists and shows develop an amazing patina over time.
