Am I crazy or is the gym usually empty this time of year?

I've come up with a gym calendar:

Peak time for people flooding into gyms is right after New Years and it dies off steadily for a couple months after.

It seems to pick up again once people realize summer is coming, and it will be off and on throughout the summer but mostly dying off by early July.

I will have the gym entirely to myself from September until Thanksgiving.

It gets busy right after Thaksgiving weekend and dies off again a week later.

I worked at a gym for 4 years and this is exactly right. The trendier the gym, the more the fluctuations.

That seems to be the case with my gym. Of late the place has been dead. And my trainer is complaining about lack of work also.

Depends on where you live. If you live in a university town, all those students coming back to school and not wanting to work out in the Uni gym pack the other gyms beginning September. So, no, not where I live.

I never go before 9pm, so it's always empty for me. I just went back to a gym as opposed to lifting at home, and overall I'm happy - better and more equipment, but I'm dealing with the occasional annoyance that you find in most gyms. People (that clearly are not body builders) posing in mirrors, grunting loudly while doing curls, not racking weights, etc.

It means that all the " presummer " rookies are out.

Nice!

I find it pathetic that some people only work out during certain times of the year. They don't have the dedication or commitment to stay healthy, they just want to look good during the summer and get fat during the winter.
