Wearing jeans without a belt

Thread Starter
After noticing a heated debate in "Men's Clothing" section of forum regarding proper circular direction for belt, wondered if others when dressed in jeans opt not to wear belt at all.

Background. I can remember as a young grade school kid being dressed by parents in jeans, intentionally selected a size or so bigger (because I would "continue growing") along with some cheep flimsy belt to keep them up and in place. Calling combination "uncomfortable" would be an understatement. When provided an opportunity to select clothes myself, during later teen years as a senior high school and college student, correctly sized bluejeans soon filled closet with belt relegated for and pulled out only on dress-up occasions. Today, while one is an essential ingredient for work in coat and tie attire, I continue to dislike denim cinched around waist and rarely, if ever, thread a belt around bluejeans.

So, if leaving jeans unbelted is part of your "casual look," how and when did you adopt style?

With the belts that I tend to wear, unbelted looks less casual than belted. That said, I do wear them without a belt from time to time, but only because I throw off one pair without taking the belt off and put a new one on, then I look down at the belted jeans on the ground, give a gay little flip of the wrist and say "meh," then run out the door.

I try not to go without a belt in my jeans. Many times, I don't need one for functional reasons, but it feels like I've completed my outfit if I do wear one.

Having acquired a ridiculous number of belts, I currently only wear one when I need it to hold the jeans up.

I have gone back and forth on this over the years.

I can't remember ever wearing a belt until I started working after college. Now I seem to always wear a belt out of habit.

I have an aversion to belts too, arising from my childhood years. I found them uncomfortable and would really get moody if my parents made me wear one. I guess it has something to do now with having narrow hips/no butt, and I HAVE to wear a belt, and I have to wear it pretty tight, so even now I get uncomfortable and want to loosen my belt. I do however, love looking at belts on other guys for some reason - see how they wear them, how tight, etc., and why they seem to be content with wearing them, whereas for me it's a chore.

It depends on how your jeans fit. Ideally, all my jeans would not require a belt to stay up, and most of them don't, but sometimes I would wear a belt anyway as an accessory. I wear simple top clothing and I feel a nice belt (as well as shoes) can add something to the outfit.

I do dislike the pulled in tight at the waist look, though.

The only jeans I wear (sometimes) without a belt are my Nudie Super Slim Kims, they are tight enough.

What do you match your shoes with?

I think jeans are less comfortable without one, so I've always got one on.

I wear belts for function mainly. Unless I am in my 9-5 dress clothes, I only wear one if I need to hold my jeans up. Or on the case of my RRDS I wear one to keep the waist from stretching too much.

I always wear a belt. I just don't feel right without one. Plus, a belt is a great way to lend visual interest to an outfit. imo, it's hard to beat a well worn belt made from really good leather. Belts and other leather products are something I refuse to skimp on.

Can you recommend a good online source for interesting belts? I am having a hell of a hard time finding one that I like.

Well, the men's section of www.bluebee.com has belts in a variety of styles for a variety of tastes, although the Baltazar belts can be bought for cheaper directly from Baltazar.la. I also always recommend the Engineered Garments military quick release belt for something interesting but not in your face. There are other sources, but I can't think of them right now. But I'll try. Oh, and Lance (www.virtualclotheshorse.com) has some pretty cool belts for sale right now at really good prices.
