Nice brown corduroy jacket?

Hi,

Just starting to pay attention to my clothes, and make some good purchases. I like the idea of a nice shoes, jeans, button up, brown corduroy jacket look.

Can I get some suggestions on good brands for the jacket? Maybe what to look for?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Er, and I should say, I mean a corduroy blazer. "Jacket" was a bad choice of words.

What is your budget?

I have a brown Brooks Brothers corduroy sports coat which I am very happy with, but it is several years old and was from the Made in the USA era. It now appears all their corduroy coats are imported so I cannot vouch for the quality.

Budget is flexible. Part of me wants to invest in a piece that is time-less, and has excellent construction, and will always be good for an outfit. Another part is like, I see $89 corduroy blazers at Gap, and I have no clue why it sucks. Overall, I'd feel super comfortable with under $200, but if there was a great case to be made for a $400 corduroy blazer, I could be convinced.

If you like the one at the GAP, if it fits you right, and if it looks like it's solid construction/good materials(it probably isn't), then get it. Ultimately, you should get what you like so long as it doesn't look like shit.

It sounds like it may be out of your price range (honestly, it is for me at least), but Inventory has a nice lighter brown (they term it dark khaki) Engineered Garments cord blazer...http://stockroom.inventorymagazine.c...iriving-jacket. No price listed but I feel like I saw somewhere that it is around $400. Perhaps R'yon will see this and can state the exact price.

The Nepenthes store in NYC also had a nice EG corduroy blazer when I stopped by this weekend. I think it was around $400. It may well be the same as the Inventory one. Online the inventory one looks a bit lighter than the one I saw at Nepenthes but I am not sure about the color accuracy of the pics.

Listen - go to Brooks Brothers and try on their 1818 Fitz corduroy sportscoat, ideally in the darker brown. Skip over the stuff by J Crew, Lands End Canvas, etc until you try that one on. It's $400 retail, but remember that BB has sales of around 30-40% off. Their after Christmas sale is huge. There may be better cord jackets out there, but the BB is a very, very good place to start. Even if you think you can't afford it, it's best to go in and try one on. All the lower tier jackets are mostly indistinguishable, and this one will give you a sense of what's possible with a cord jacket.

+1 for the EG Cord Irving, a very versatile model.
