I am sick of seeing these all over the forum. Pictures in the wine thread where you can't even see the label, but the glass/meal/mood lighting is all in perfect focus. WAYWRN pictures artificially desaturated and taken from angles that obscure the clothing while emphasizing one's female companion or the Michelin-starred restaurant where the person is sitting. Photos of cigars which are really about showing off the DuPont lighters and iPads in the background. In all cases, the object under discussion is completely ancillary to advertising the hip and bourgeois side of one's lifestyle. The temptation to engage in this is so strong that I've even caught myself doing it once. It's sad and we should stop engaging in it. Or am I being unrealistic because self-promotion is a necessary corollary of exhibiting things you own, appreciate and consume?
Enough with the lifestyle photos
