Do any of you guys have one of these? I'm heading to Reykjavik later this fall and am thinking about picking one up. Not sure if they would translate well once I fly home, but they look damn comfortable.

I was in Reykjavik about a month and a half ago. I decided against them because I couldn't spend the money, but thought it would look kinda cool. I've seen a lot of people wearing similar looking things here in Toronto, but that wool was itchy as hell.

I have one.

They sure are itchy. Icelandic wool must be the itchiest, coarsest wool in the world. And possibly the warmest.

Take some cues from the locals when it comes to how to wear it.

(And I'm afraid I don't have any pictures from a wedding on a farm in Iceland this summer, with me in white shirt, bow tie and lopapeysa...)

I have an Icelandic touque made the same way by some local ladies. It itches like hell.

Super warm though, but make sure to wear something underneath.

While you're in Iceland, check out North 66; I rather like their Parka's. They look much nicer than Canada Goose's.

Where can one go about finding such sweaters in Iceland? Who are the best makers?

I have a couple,(pullovers, no zip) They're great for the winter here. I wear a tee underneath and don't find them that itchy. YMMV

As far as I know, any new lopapeysa, knitted the traditional way, will feel itchy and scratchy but this wears out. With age they become softer. So you might consider getting one second hand. This said, you could also pick one up from Farmers Market (brand, not a place). They re-considered the whole lopapeysa look and gave it a more modern appearance, a slimmer fit - and somehow managed to make it less itchy also.

Some images from their website

Or a more modern option which contains a layer of windproof fabric that really extends the warmth of the sweater:
