What are the good bookshops in London?

I'm looking for ones that are likely to offer selection of books regarding the menswear (anything from Savile row to Helmut Lang), architecture, art or design in general. Thanks in advance.

Foyles on Charing Cross Road is terrific. It covers five stories (pardon the pun) and is very well-stocked; I've lost many a Saturday afternoon browsing in there.

Their art, design, photography, fashion and architecture sections are pretty comprehensive.

For example, I just went onto their website and searched 'Savile Row' - it listed several relevant titles and told me if they were in stock at Charing Cross, and if so, how many copies they have.

The book section of the shop at Tate Britain is quite good at the moment and has a few sartorial ones including the new one on Savile Row by James Sherwood. I'd agree with Foyles on the design front and offer Daunt Books on Marylebone High St as something different - great travel section but also has quite a few coffee table books of the sort you're after. There's also Hatchards on Piccadilly.

I also recommend Foyles. One of the best bookshops on Planet Earth.

Waterstone's on Piccadilly.

Hatchard's on Piccadilly.

Then you always have http://www.cecilcourt.co.uk/

Let me know if you want shops for first editions, etc.

This is nice. A little old-skooly... the antithesis of the behomeths. Also, +1 on Foyles, and its 5 storeys
