Yes, a fit pic would help. That way people could tell you if you are correct about looking like **** and point you in the direction you want to go, or if you just have some unreasonable standard.

It is probably a mixture of things. You might peruse designer collections and the best rated fits on lookbook and think "damn, I will never look that good". Which is maybe a half truth. But this applies to most things about oneself, and you should not let it get you down; just as you should not give up in school when you are not Einstein, or give up in your profession because you are not Bill Gates.

Or you have much further to go, like many of the denizens of this forum. You can remedy this by devoting yourself to further self improvement.

if you like the stuff you see visibly in your closet but don't like how it looks when worn, something tells me the fit is off? try taking the stuff you like to a tailor and donate/sell the rest and just replace with proper fitting clothes.

Hey OP what stuff do you have? You might just be buying based on rack appeal, which is a totally easy mistake to make, but would definitely lead to you being less satisfied with stuff once it's on your body.

The "wear suits every day" mentality is really fun and tempting, but keep in mind that the people wearing their suits on The Sartorialist are Italian yarn magnates and Wall Street heroes. You can get good suits, but it will be hard, and it will be tough to accommodate your wardrobe w/r/t cleaning, heavy wear, etc. - there's a reason the public at large wears jeans.

I'm definitely where you are right now, I don't like much of my wardrobe, but I'm on the way toward fixing that. Be totally honest with yourself about what you want and whether you think you can pull it off, then do that. Browse WAYWTD, online fashion journals, etc., and see what appeals to you. Just go slowly and browse a lot. You can do this thing.

I have many J. Crew clothes, gignham shirts, chambray shirts, plain white shirts, cardigans, v necks, dark slim levis 514, a few sportcoats that I have had tailored.

I have been thinking about it today and I think it is I just don't feel comfortable in the clothes, I feel out of place with everyone around me at school. Most people I go to school with grew up on a farm so when I wear the style I want I feel a little too polished around them and it makes me uncomfortable. I think this is something I need to get over myself. I would ideally like to wear cotton or knit ties with my shirts and my sportcoats. I feel more put together when wearing a tie, but I can't handle the comments that come with the clothes I wear.

I know I'm being kind of a pu$$y.

If you feel uncomfortable, you could always pick up a good pair of sneakers or boots and a couple of plain t-shirts, and phase in your nicer stuff from time to time. So when you didn't feel like being aware of your gear, you wouldn't have to.

If people give you **** for the way you dress, **** them for settling for ugly ****. Be such a nifty guy that no one notices you aren't wearing Relay for Life tees and New Balances.

Otherwise you need to go through some serious introspection to find out what's up. Everytime I put something I own on, I feel ******* awesome, and you should too.

Did you feel awesome in those gap v-necks and levis jackets you're trying to sell in your sig?

the key is to make a gradual transition, start by revamping basics and work up from there.

For the price of my (admittedly small) wardrobe, I could be swimming in H&M and I would loathe wearing every one. I think I'll take my designers.

+1 I'm doing this right now and it's awesome. edit: the "building up a small good wardrobe", not swimming in H&M

I don't see why ppl can't understand. Has nobody here ever seen an item, fell in love with it, bought it and realized it didn't look good on them? A huge part of dressing well is being able to pick clothes that not only look good, but look good on you. Ditching that impulse buy and thinking through a purchase, even if it's primarily driven by emotion. That's something I'm struggling with and working through now.

My wardrobe now is meh. But I am building something good. I have a look in mind, just have to buy it.

This is what I have been doing. I got rid of many clothes and have been trying to build it back up with fewer higher quality pieces that are versatile. I just haven't gotten to where I think I should be. I sometimes envy those who don't care about style, (to a point, most of the population looks like garbage) it takes a lot of thinking and money. You have to have shoes that go with a certain style within your style and other shoes for other styles within your style. At the same time I find it fun when I do find that piece that I have been searching for and I truly like. I do have a few pieces I really enjoy.

I think I need to take it as a journey in finding my own style and be lucky I am one who enjos and cares about it.

I'm going through this crap as well. My wardrobe has been going full-on MC the last two years which is awesome for work and such but I find that my downtime wardrobe is getting stale and repetitive. Trying to brush up on my streetwear and build it up slowly over the F/W. Too young to dress MC style all the time. \\selfish rant.

I didn't even wear the levi's jacket. As it still has tags. However, yah there was a time where I dressed pretty horribly, and wore loose fitting gap v-necks and felt awesome, lol. That was a few months ago. I've been making great strides, and every month I'm able to get a designer piece which fits my new aesthetic and makes me enjoy dressing well.

Did you feel awesome wearing your gray H&M suit and gap denim you sold?
