Who is Robert Kirk of Cable Car Clothiers?

Their sign stated that the store was registered as Robert Kirk Ltd. Who is RK? The old guy in the store is Mr. Charles Pivnick. What is their early history?

My understanding, although I don't know this for sure, is that Cable Car Clothiers was once its own entity. It later merged with Robert Kirk which was an already established business. There was a post at some point to this effect, and the poster claimed that the quality of the latter was better than the former.

There was a postcard of CCC on ebay at one point that showed a picture of the front of the former shop. It did not list Robert Kirk.
