Fitness column...

OK drawing a blank on this, so i'll ask the internet. The internet knows everything.

The owner of my gym lets me train free there in return for writing a short fitness column once a month in an expat magazine...it's a pretty good deal, cos i typically do an hour of background reading, and then bang them out in like 15 mins and I'm good to go.

He's back in the US at the moment, told me to come up with it by myself this time (normally we kick a topic around, he suggest/i suggest, whatever)...

Past topics have included:

  • "The five tenets of fitness"
  • Developing strength
  • Developing cardio
  • Endurance workouts
  • Developing flexibility
  • Bodyweight exercises
  • Designing an exercise program
  • Do you need a personal trainer?

...and now I am drawing a blank. Only 300 word articles, and a non-expert readership, so open it up to any suggestions for topics that you guys may think are interesting...have to stay away from nutrition as well, someone else writes on that.

Deadlifts, with or without gloves?

diet. In which ways it can and can't affect fitness, supplements, macronutrients etc. edit: i see only 300 words. Just macronutrients (carbs protein fats) and calorie counting vs energy expenditure.

ya, but as per my last line there, i can't touch nutrition, someone else does a column on it. thanks for the suggestion though.

Let's see... you could do a 1-0-1 on each of the three major compounds, a short text on what to do/not to do.

Maybe a primer on high-intensity interval training?

Equipment, pros and cons, what to use and why (like belts, straps, chalk etc.).

Also, a 300-word rant on not doing curls in the squat rack

HIIT is a decent option, although I may have to hold it for a while. It is written under the name of the guy who runs the gym, and HIIT may be something that he has opinions on, so I couldn't slip that one through without him checking it (like i could when i wrote about personal trainers, cos it is generally pretty obvious and universal). Good thought though, i'll run it by him when he returns. Should mention also, it's a mixed audience, which pretty much precludes 'blast your gunz' style things....
