There are a lot of fine pens being made today. I would strongly recommend finding a store that has a good selection and taking several for e test ride before making a selection. You will find that some pens seem to work with you in a pleasing way, while others seem to get in your way. You won't be able to predict which is which without actually trying them out. I would recommend checking out Parker 75 pens, though. These actually allow you to adjust the nib to suit your particular ergonomics. Another maker worth looking at is Yard-o-Led.

Good advice.

There are plenty of good FPs for that kind of money: Parker, S. T. Dupont, Montegrappa, Pilot, Nakaya, Pelikan, Omas, etc. Also of particular interest will be the inks and paper that you use with it. A good source of information is: www.fountainpennetwork.com Read some of the FP/ink/paper reviews and look at some of the pictures to see what is appealing. Then search out a store that has a good selection, if you can find one locally, and try a few out.

Aurora or Montegrappa are two of my favorite pen companies that I don't think have been mentioned here. The Montegrappa pens in particular can have a fair amount of heft to them.
