How to hand-wash a shirt? - Page 2

I think the key is using high quality MOP buttons and washing in a delicate/gentle cycle. I've had some extra-thick MOP buttons get fudged up in a washing machine, but I didn't use a delicate wash and they're not the highest quality. The smaller MOP buttons I have are quite resilient and have never broken.

But, if you must hand wash a shirt, it's pretty simple.

1) Fill bucket with water and detergent
2) Soak and agitate shirt in bucket
3) Empty bucket and fill with clean water
4) Dunk shirt and agitate to remove soap
5) Repeat 3 and 4 until no soap is left
6) Twist/Wring shirt gently to get out most of the water
7) Hang dry

There are variations, but these are the basics.

Thanks for the guide.

Have some said that twisting/wringing is bad? Does the idea that twisting/wringing might be bad have merit?

I've had a high-end drycleaner mess up MOP buttons on a few different RLPL shirts. I presume they were washed on the delicate cycle and that the buttons are high-quality.

The MOP buttons about whose damage I complain about were not broken, but they were chipped and given other similar imperfections due to receiving damage during professional laundering from a high-end drycleaner.

Are you suggesting that washing machines on a delicate cycle should cause zero damage to MOP buttons?

Or are you suggesting that that washing machines on a delicate cycle will cause some damage to MOP buttons, just not enough for them to break?

Depending on the fabric you might want to just gently squeeze out the excess water and then wrap the shirt in a dry towel for a minute or two, then hang to dry.

If your washer has a hand wash setting use that and just put your shirt in a mesh laundry bag first, will help keep the shirt from flailing around in the machine and possibly damaging any MOP buttons.

If you do not like the pink, try dyeing it using RIT dye to a color of your choice. May be a shade of blue or something.  But remember, even cotton shirts have non-cotton threads which may react differently to the bleach/dye.
