looking for a fall/winter jacket, slim and not far-fetched

Hi all,

I am currently looking for a jacket (coat) and it is a PITA as usual. I need some advice!

I have this picture in my mind:
- slim fit without being skin-tight (this is a must)
- no navy, blue, black,
- distressed look would be a plus,
- no bright colors, shiny things, reflective materials (?)
- no parka nor pea coat
- no H&M, Zara, those things are not durable...
- keep in mind I need a size S (or sometimes XS), brands like barbour don't carry ANY jacket that fits me (unbelievable but true, last time I visited a shop of this brand I was told to consider girl's jackets, WTF??)

I can give up on some of the points above if necessary, but the bottom line is that I need something I feel comfortable wearing.

Currently I am considering this:

But I am not very convinced. I am looking for a jacket since months and I have almost lost hope to find something nice that fits me properly...

Any idea? Thanks in advance!

Yeah. I have seen in the past some pictures of you (I often lurk and rarely post) and I am convinced we might wear the same jacket size (only I do quite a lot of rowing). Plus, I remember I liked your taste albeit looking at some items, I didn't think I could possibly pull it of. What jackets do you wear? Can you post some links? I forgot to say something about the target price: I'm a broke student (christ) but I am willing to spend some money if I find that the item is worth it and especially fits well.

I just find your list of things you completely will not wear quite funny. You've ruled out 90% of the jackets you will find already, and you've ruled them out before even seeing them. Never mind that there is no such thing as a jacket for both fall and winter really, unless you live in quite a mild climate -- you did not mention which temperatures you need to deal with, information that is actually useful compared to the checklist of No's you provided.

Sorry about that. I'm looking for a medium weight to wear through fall and winter. I don't mind feeling a bit cold in winter - not even more than a bit - last year I went through the cold season with a spring jacket. I have seen many jackets, I don't know, maybe I am picky or I have a weird taste. Anyway, I agree I probably wouldn't wear many jackets because I am a choosy asshole, but hey, I wouldn't be here asking for help otherwise. And c'mon, my list is not just no's: slim fit, available in size S, green/brown/gray shades, possibly distressed.

What's medium weight? Probably better to say where you're from or the range of temperatures you'll be facing off against =p

looks like a&f is your brand.

Grey wool duffle

or

insulated m-65 jacket, which is what I think you actually want.

If you're doing the beat up earth tone thing, you might want one of those coats made out of sweater, but if you have a muscular torso a structured coat is probably best.

Take a look at the jacket I posted above, I would consider that as "medium". Hope it is clearer.

You may be right. Where I live (Europe) we tend to think that a&f is childish, mostly become of some designs, the people we see wearing their stuff and the models outside the shops. Bad marketing. It does not sound as a compliment, but if the do not have a logo outside and fit well, I don't see why not. I don't care about anything else.

I am quite muscular, but I am at the same time slim, I am not bulky. I wear jeans size 29, (slim) shirts size 37/38 (not sure if this is the european size). What do you mean by structured jacket? can you link one please? Sweaters are not a good choice. They usually fit me very tight in the shoulders/arms and loose around the waist. Then after a while they lose the shape and become a shapeless mess. The M65 military jacket looks interesting but it is hard/impossible to get over here. I could get my hands on french, swiss, italian and german (harder) army surplus, likely, but US is very hard or shitty imitations. In addition, I have owned several military stuff and I always had the impression the cut is not very interesting, with important exceptions, maybe the M65 jacket is one of those, usually functionality is their best feature. EDIT: my grammar used to suck, and still does.

Shit you're right... that fits to what I have in mind!

is there any other brand you could suggest that make similar jackets sold in europe and without the brand name so evident? Really over here - no offense meant - you can't go around with a&f written on anything unless you're a high school jock or a hot chick. I am neither of them, I am pretty sure at least about the second.

Could you guys use the stickied threads, please. That zheeto is a tiny man who wants a purple M65 does not merit a thread of its own.
