Bow-lee-euh. I'm French. I win.

I like the Frome better, but then again I'm not the biggest fan of austerity brogues.

I guess bwa-LOW, like the artist who painted beautiful women 100 years ago. But he spelled his name Boileau. So I have no clue.

any preference for either of these, or an alternative/cheaper suggestion?

for what its worth, i have wider feet. the 888 looks like it might be more accommodating.
open to other makers as well.
thanks.

C&J makes a nice one. Aside from the Beaulieu, I like the Warwick and Woodcote from Lobb.

G&G Connaught is a contender as well. I like the DG70 last for this shoe.

W.O.E. - You might think about the 606 last as well. It's not elongated like the 82 and 888 but closely resembles the 888 shape. I have narrow feet and the 82 that I have is tight in the toes. So if you go with the 82, think about going one wider than normal. Knowing my experience, I really suggest you try them on before you buy. The 82 will also make your feet look slightly pigeon-toed .

Woe-- head up to Leffot to try on shoes to figure out what size you need for the last you want. Stop by Geno's and grab 5 provolone without then jump onto the toll road.

Last-wise, both the 82 and the 888 are quite narrow, the 82 especially so. I have pretty regular feet, perhaps slightly on the wide side, but not enough to go up to a wide width generally. I could not find a size/width combo in the 82 that suited my foot at all. The 888 shares a similar problem, but it is a little more generous, so I can just about wear it, though it is not ideal, which is why I don't own any 888's. If you like the shape of the 888, I found the 808 is more accommodating because it's a marginally rounder toe, and feels quite similar on my feet to C&J's 337 (despite having quite different external shapes). Others have found the opposite, however, and I remember reading somewhere that the 888 was designed to improve fit on the average foot compared to the 808. The 202 is probably their last most suited to slightly wider feet, and I find it quite comfortable, but it is a considerably rounder last than the 888, so if you don't want that, it's probably not for you.

dont get either, my choice would be the inverness, sleeker, sexier and works great with both 888 & 82

I find the 82 to fit narrower than the 888 as well. The 82 is also the more elegant last.

The 888 last looks much better in pics than in real life. The toe has a snouty shape to it (I know, I have 2 RLPL EGs in the 888). I wonder if it's the same with the 82. I dig the 82 much more. Beaulieu FTW for its simplicity.

By the way, prize to the first person who knows how to pronounce Beaulieu correctly without googling it.

I read in some book that the British pronounce it byoo-lee.

And that Beauchamp is pronounced Beechum. There were other example of British pronunciation that I can't remember but were equally baffling to me.

I go with the Beaulieu. But, I only know them from pictures -- never seen one in the wild.
