Then definitely go for the SUNY system. Public school is expensive enough as it is.

All jokes aside, The CUNY BA route lets you attend any cuny campus and take classes wherever you please. you construct your own major and explore whatever you see fit.

A few of my friends are going down this route.

Isn't RISD more prestigious than Parsons?

Liberal arts programs are great if you can supplement them with an internship or join a club with a direct connection to an industry. But yes, without something that can be contorted to look like industry experience, getting a non-academic job directly after graduation might be more of a challenge. Oh, and for what it's worth, I took the mass culture lib arts path and now do strategic planning at an ad agency (though for now it's an unpaid internship-- my atonement for not doing one in college). Tons of career opportunities can branch off from media/culture/stuff

The OP doesn't seem to realize that going to an overpriced LAC, building your own curriculum and then following a non-tradiaitional career path only works for the independently wealthy. For everyone else it's tantamount to burning a pile of cash in your backyard while reading Ovid.

I have a worthless degree - classics, in fact - but I only embarked upon it once I had the makings of a career path. As you said, it's a luxury that few can afford. I graduated without debt, partly because school is cheaper in canada and partly because I worked full-time. I couldn't imagine spending tens of thousands per year for the privilege of attending a private liberal arts school. I hope I never see mag complaining about healthcare or insurance costs, or pretty much anything else that costs money, if this is the decision he makes... It seems like a very poor financial decision.

Not necessarily for fashion. If you want snob value, some of those Dutch schools would be ideal. I am now reminded of the fact that I had a highschool classmate who transferred to the New School for "Creative Writing". He now works in some dive bar in NYC according to the FacialBook.

Going to university in Canada was a godsend for me. Graduated with 5K debt without any parental support and part-time work and paid it all back in a few months.

Holla!
