close minded? no.

I think it would be close minded to belive that strong character and personality don't make a person who they are and fashion does.

I agree totally... what is a normal way of dressing ? Smth which we have all agreed upon? We could of agreed many 100's of years ago that wearing large boots and animal prints would be used as a suit...

and you can tell this by the way the dress right? you can tell their character from a photo?

i agree that just because someone dresses weird and unique doesn't make them weird and unique but how do you know they are not?

some people like looking diffferent than the norm and some people dress how the media/society expects them to and some just wear what they dig.

just because you might not be comfortable rocking extravagant stuff and looking like an oddball doesnt mean you can judge others who do so.

i think closeminded about sums it up.

I would just like to say that the Japanese are probably more "different" than you think. In fact, its just given me a great idea for a new thread!

Tokyo Slim, I think Japanese street style is very interesting and unique especially in big cities like Tokyo and Osaka !

"Last summer I got bored of my eyebrows and shaved them off. Then I visited Japan and found my new style. Now I have the courage to mix clothes in a more bold and daring way."

Mental note...never go to Finland!
Add this kind of clothing and otaku-culture to 9 months of winter and no wonder the suicide rate is so high.

Many times its an all-consuming hobby, the search for the perfect embroidery, or a rare Sex Pistols pin, or whatever.

The "babydoll and lolita", the "punk and/or British", the "goth" (sometimes mixes with the lolita), the "dandy", the "kawaii (or 'cute'), the "military or nautical", "rockabilly or retro",and "ethnic" factions are all trying to communicate something different about themselves through their dress, while at the same time rebelling against the boring and horrible lack of sartorial variety of the corporate salariman, who's boxy, ill fitting (cheap) suits, horrible ties, grungy white shirts, and scuffed, black shoes make up most of the adult male population of the metropolitan areas.

In many ways, we are trying to do the same things here at SF, with our disdain for sack suits, and fused garments, and the championing of bespoke... They are like our strange foriegn siblings. I think that maybe we should reach out and embrace the spirit of their struggle! Unfortunately the only one here who looks good in a babydoll dress is Fok.

I think I liked Japan better when they tried to take over the world.

Apperently to you closeminded means having an opinion. If that's so, then im closeminded. Accepting all the garbage you see just for the sake of being accepting is just weak.

Did you read some of the descriptions? They basically explain why they look so retarted and if you read between the lines they basically say that they do it to be unique. in the process they are TRYING TOO HARD.

Do you know what's body language? Apperently not. If you did you would know that you can tell alot about anybody from a pic. It's not magic, it's common sense. THose pictures just look sad. In every sense of the word. I only checked the first couple links, but if they are all like that then God help us all.

I wouldn't be caught dead wearing any of that ugly bullshit. If i think it's ugly im saying it's ugly. Im not gonna say anything i don't belive. And i belive it's ugly.

This is barely a fashion forum, it's really a denim forum that everynow and then talks about fashion. When fashion IS disscussed, it's usually about checking what's trendy and going the other way.
am i right or am i right???

Well, denim is a half of what this forum discusses... But fashion is discussed as well. And there are some pretty knowledgeable people here. Styleforum's track record speaks for itself. Just search for "A.P.C.", "Engineered Garments" and "Nudie" and see how far back the discussions started.

As for having an opinion, hey, we all have them. And it's definitely not closeminded to hold them. However, it's closeminded to reject something just because it doesn't fit your own aesthetic. That's pretty much the definition of being closeminded - the inability to make paradigm shifts in your thinking. And it is just ignorant to state opinions without basis. Check out the "What do you think of my outfit" thread if you can't figure out how to articulate an opinion.
