Interesting. I just ran through Scivation's website and there is no caloric content listed for Xtend. Where did you find that? If there were calories in it, wouldn't they be required to list them on the label?

FWIW, a serving of my BCAA's (in pill form) clocks in at 10 calories.

Is each g of BCAA's equivalent to a g of protein? So then each g would = 4 calories.

I got it direct from the folks at Scivation long ago. There's no requirement to provide the seers because supps are not regulated by the FDA.

Even though they're not under direct FDA supervision, I was under the impression that they still had to abide by federal labeling laws.

I'm no expert on this- but I thought that meant they just had to say what was in it- but not calories etc. Dunno.

So I went back to the site at Scivation which now says this on their website:

Xtend has zero calories, carbs or sugar per FDA guidelines. But I'll bet you that is because FDA doesn't qualify BCAA's.
I did some further digging and found this old post by Scivation at bb.com:

It is not on the label.

Thus, per the FDA, NO calories.

Bollocks, IMO.

Several years back, however, I had occasion to talk with a couple of Scivation reps at an event and they said it DID have calories and gave me a number of about 20-29 cals per scoop-If you count the grams of Aminos. So 3-4 scoops will be ~ 60-80/90-120 cals.

How are those calories handled by the body? My guess is nobody is all that sure, even Scivation.

Bottom line- XTend is a great product and those few calories however many they are, I ignore.

On Caloric Value of Xtend/ BCAA effect on insulin

It does have calories. It has 5g of amino acids per scoop which is 4kcal/gram = 20 total kcals per scoop. The reason it is listed as 0 is because they FDA will not allow a company to list free form amino acids as having calories which is absolutely asinine. BCAAs will cause insulin secretion, read my post above yours in this thread.

If you're really worried about the calories, get some bulk unflavored BCAAs and use some gatorade zero or something

The calories are in the BCAA's not the flavoring/additives.

Then who cares? The calories from BCAAs aren't the same as from knocking back some skittles or something.
