Have you ever pickled anything before? Start with cucumbers. They are effing easy to pickle.

I've never done it before but I imagine you have you have dry the okra off pretty well before getting them wet (sounds counterintuitive I guess) otherwise they will get kind of gummy and turn to mush. Okra has always been a difficult vegetable to get nice, for me.

Wikipedia says Africa.

It's sort of remarkable that okra enjoys such widespread popularity despite its texture. I once had it with natto and raw quail egg in Japan; it was a little over the top, but good.

Easy to pickle...throw in some carrots and pearl onions for interest. I've eaten Okra all my life, mostly fried being from the south. Here is my favorite way to make it... Stewed Okra and Tomatoes 1/4 pound bacon, diced 1/2 cup water 1 cup yellow onion, diced 1/2 teaspoon Tabasco Sauce 2 cups tomatoes, diced 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 pound frozen cut okra 2 teaspoons black pepper 2 cups tomato sauce 1–2 cups corn kernels (optional) Sauté diced bacon, add onion, and continue cooking. Add all other ingredients and bring to a boil.Reduce to a simmer and stew, stirring occasionally, for 45 minutes or until okra is tender. Makes 10 big servings.

Fried okra is the awsumz. My grandmother used to fry okra and pickle beets. Grew up eating lots of both.
