Monster Beats by Dr. Dre Studio Headphones? - Page 3

They're nice but way overpriced. But they do look badass.

If you got the money to spare, I'd say why not. Sound good enough and they are aesthetically awesome.

The Beats are not bad by any means. In fact, for bass heavy music (Hip-Hop, electro, etc) they are pretty good if you get the full sized one's.

For the price, if you only care about sound, the Senn HD-25 would be a better alternative with a similar flavor. Only problem is that they are ugly and look like they cost $20, not $200.
And that's partly the reason why the beats are successful, they are the full package. Sound decent, most people think they look good and are convenient.

Most of the recs you'll get will not have those three things. Some will sound good and look like crap and some others will sound underpowered unless you use a 1/4" jack and a headphone amp, thus making them a pain in the ass and far from convenient.

If you look at the Beats, you should also look at the B&W P5. Aesthetically pleasing, good sound (though not bass heavy) and designed to be portable and convenient.

again, the Sony MDVR-700 is what you want. looks and performance. plus, the fact that almost all touring DJs and producers use this should tell you they're good.

I know they've got the name of Dr. Dre but really you can do better.

Would a quality pair of headphones like this be wasted on an ipod? I'd like something for flying to cancel out as much of the noise as possible...

I have a pair of Hd25's and I can say they sound great even just plugged into an ipod. Of course, they sound even better with an amp.
