Aero uses horsehide or steerhide and exceeds motorcycle grade standards which is around 4.2mm. ToJ moto uses lambskin which won't save your skin during an accident.

The customer can have this one fit any way he/she wants, it's custom. If he likes the ToJ, great, I'm just answering a question.

Right out the box Aero jackets are ugly because the leather is very thick and stiff thus won't drape well. It takes years to break in their jackets. Not everyone's cup of tea.

Thanx for the info guys.

I think i narrowed it down to two jackets i would like, either the Perfecto or the East rider both by Schott.

Seems like the Perfecto is the more popular of the two around here. Im currently searching for a used one to try out first since i have never owned one.

How do these fit? Since ive never really owned this type of jack since i was like 16 (and that one was waaaay to small and covered in stud/buttons/painted bands/yay punk rock! haha!)

My measurements are: Neck 15 3/4, Chest 39 3/4, arms (top of shoulder to wrist bone) 28 1/2

I use lamb and calf, and sometimes Japanee horsehide when it is available (which is a food byproduct there

).... but 4.2mm? are you sure about that man? that's 10.5oz, whereas a 'fashion' leather jacket in lamb is lucky to be 2oz. It's possible that parts of the jacket may be 4.2 where the seams meet and get rolled over on both sides and sewn, but 4.2 is INSANELY thick. 4mm is considered thick for a belt leather, 3mm is sufficiently thick for a belt, and they sell belt leather at 2mm - it barely bends, let alone folds. I don't doubt that Aeros are thick, you can tell just by looking at them in pictures, but even 2.1mm as a single thickness is almost unbelievably thick...

Schotts these days are cut for "average" Americans, ie fat people. You should definitely find a place you can try before buying. I think Schott does custom orders though.

If you are looking for a slimmer cut leather biker type jacket, why not try to look at the Belstaff or Lewis Leather jackets? Although companies like Schott, Aero & Vanson all make top notch biker's jackets but they are probably a bit too heavy for everyday kind of jacket.

I own few bike jackets/leather suits (full bike leather suit weights about 8-10kg/22lbs) for racing and 4.2 sounds about right. That's why on the expensive bike jackets in elbows you have accordion panels to help with flex, also they are pre shaped with bent elbows etc. Bike jackets are not made for fashion, but coming in contact with road. Now to give your idea of what road is like at speed, think of sticking your fingers in an angle grinder at speed. Would you prefer to do it with 2.1mm fashion leathers or 4.2mm bike leather? If you are not getting on a bike get fashion leather for comfort.

Sorry you're right, its 4 OZ not 4 mm
facepalm.gif
. And 4 oz translates to around 1.6mm. My jacket weighs around 8 lb, sore muscles during break in process, but when it fits well you won't notice.

All the Schotts have different cuts. The slim cut Schotts like the 641 are definitely not for fat Americans. I'm a drop 8 (40 chest, 32 waist) and the waist is actually the slimmest part of my Schott....

that's exactly what I use for calfskin on my jackets - see aeglus, hendrix, etc - they have 4oz calf from me.

this; will cost you up to 2000+ if you want horsehide and some added features, but it's almost completely custom made. you can even source your own leather, though it has to be to their standards.
