I wear my 8-lace 1460s all year long. The wide toe box makes putting on a pair of thick socks easy and comfortable. But they are not totally waterproof. You can keep your feet fairly warm in them, but if you're traipsing through lots of snow and slush they are not going to keep your feet dry.
