First Pair of Designer Jeans - Want to get it right

Hey, all this is my first post on the forum. I am a college student and don't have access to a car, and there aren't (as far as I know) any jean boutiques withing walking distance from UNC Chapel Hill, so I am pretty much limited to ordering online. My true waist size is a 32 (measured about 2 inches below the navel) Unfortunately, I only have experience wearing Hollister, AE (you get the idea) jeans that don't seem to hold very high regard on this forum. I have longer legs, so 32x32 usually end up a little short on me. FWIW, the Hollister jeans I wear are 32x34 and fit loose - I need a belt to keep them up (I think Hollister sizing runs large). For my first pair, I'd like to keep the budget at $200 max (less is better, of course ), which I think should open up a lot of options. I have looked at APC New Standards and Nudie RRDG and like the appearance of both, but am open to other options as well. Thanks in advance for any help.

You can't go wrong with the APCs for $140. Those are like the unofficial "starter premium selvage jean" on all the various forae that educated denimnerds post on. If you want something more democratic fitting, the Nudie RRDG is a great choice as well ($185). From your pics both would look good. If you go with Nudie a size 31 should fit well for a 32 waist. APC go with a 29 (snug) or 30 (relaxed).

Im in a similar boat...trying to pick a nice pair of designer jeans out. Ive decided on trying some APC's to start with and get a feel for. My question is...Does the APC website not sell to the United States?? In the shipping info. area where it has you choose a country it seems there was virtually every country in the world except the U.S. ???

I emailed them...no response.....How can i get a pair? from the site would be easiest for me.

thanks.

Clean sweep go with the APC it's cheaper to boot, love my new standards. Dont forget the APC's run big so size down a size or two. Check the APC sizing thread for more info.

I will hopefully be making the same decision in the near future, so if you do happen to find any decent denim boutiques in the chapel hill area please let me know.

Hey, thanks for the replies - how do the APC rescues / straights compare to the RRDG? I think a regular ralph fit might be more my style instead of the slimmer (I think) APC New Standards.

If the new standards are too tight, try the apc rescues.

yeah, APC rescues are looser than new standards. i'd stay away from nudie as i hear everyone with the dry greycast have problems with the crotch ripping. either shell out the extra for the RRDS or stick with APC's.

Make sure with the rescues you go down at least 2-3 sizes! I'm happy with my rescues despite the fact that these jeans are taking a long ass time to fade!

once you hit the 3 or 4th month, they start fading like crazy. i'm actually selling my worn pair of rescues, and an example of their fading after 6 months and 1 wash is here
