We just outfitted our boyz yesterday. Do you know what gloves look like now? The guy gave me a sorrowful 'sorry granpa' look when I asked about a garter belt. Supposedly you don't need suspenders anymore...

Read his posts then. He's 350 lbs and obstinately searching for cheap cologne. He's angry about a lot of things. Life's not exactly gone the way he wanted.

No suspenders? WTF?

Please tell me that CCM Tacks are still the standard for skates.

Although they still have suspender buttons, pants also come w/ beltloops and this thin cinching belt that supposedly obviates the need for suspenders. Maybe it's just alittle kid thing? The big boyz don't wear the old style pants anymore, but rather a (much more expensive) thing called a girdle.

This was a fairly compact shop, but no sign of bauers or ccms - the skate line they carried, and which i have been noticing more and more is Graff (swiss). nice skates. You would wince at the price of a 'top-of-the-line' stick! cheapo littlekidz beginners are $35. Victoriaville is no more. No sign of Koho, Northland, etc. Sher-wood remains...

The "girdle" goes under the pants -- it replaces the old "jockstrap+sock-clips" assembly using velcro to hold the top of the socks. In some systems the girdle itself is padded all around and covered by a nylon shell pant. In others, the girdle only has the jock in it, and the pants that go over top are themselves padded.

The cinching belt in the pants is at least 15 years old, though old farts like myself still use the suspenders.

Gotcha. Another thing was that none of the socks were stirupped. At least I recognized the rolls of white athletic tape - just glad to see that prices have kept up w/ inflation!

Man. Is the ice still made out of frozen water, or did that go high tech too?

I heard today that kids should first learn on in-line skates and then switch over to actual ice skates. Something about it builds up the ankles better. Any truth to that?

I have yet to try inline skates, and given my advanced age and the fact I've not laced on blades for 15 years, probably never will.

Yeah, my ankles are shot from basketball, so likely never will either. Just curious though. It would be nice to have a son be the first ever Floridiot NHL player.
