Top Gun.

a couple of scenes in heat are pretty good.

maybe black hawk down, more than gladiator at least.

and if we're counting war films then full metal jacket has its visceral moments

i suppose the James Bond films need a mention. and lets not forget bruckheimer. my favourite action scene is the air cav wagner saturated bullet-fest from the afore-mentioned apocalypse now, action films aren't really my cup of tea though.

Gotta 2nd Commando with the governator. Extremely funny.

Also must 2nd, "A better tomorrow" by woo.

While a very flawed movie overall, there's a 45-minute sequence in Thin Red Line that is harrowing. Would have been a much better film without the "stars" IMO.

Pretty much any Basil Rathbone swashbuckler can be counted on for mindless escapism.

Another one for Commando. So cheesy, so great. "Can i have a pillow for my friend ... he's dead tired" "What happened to sully ? ... I let him go" "You know what i like best ... what's that ? .. the price "

yeah for stupid but impressive, Id second True Lies. So pointless, but when stuff in that movie had to blow up, it stayed blown. Plus, it has Tom Arnold. Makes me think of great action movie scenes (like when the bridge blew up with Jamie Lee dangling out of the helicopter in True Lies), and one that comes back is the above-shot of Bruce Willis in the ejector seat in Die Hard 2. Very cool.

"Sleeting a leetle girl's throat is like cutting through warm butter..."

I loved Cloak & Dagger as a kid - just downloaded it again and it's still great. I still yell at the kid to pick up the gun, just like I did when I was 8.

La Femme Nikita is probably my favorite all time action movie, though the subtitles on some versions are really bad. The old VHS subs were pretty accurate.

I guess Starship Troopers is sci-fi, but it has a lot of action, and is another favorite. I also like the Bourne Identity, Ronin, Bullitt (anything with a good car chase), Heat, Collateral was okay, Payback, Sin City was great, Snatch and LS&2SB, The Getaway (McQueen), Terminator, T2, True Lies, Commando, Red Heat, Raw Deal, etc., and I actually liked The Last Action Hero (I think I was the only one). Let's see... Leon the Professional, The Usual Suspects was kind of action-ish and I love that. Eh, there are more, but I'm tired of thinking now. Time to watch something instead of thinking about it.

Another thumbs up for Commando!

Really, I found it more hilarious than Schwarzenegger's so called "comedies".

Military guy: "How did you know they were there?"
Ahnuld: "I smelled them coming."

Beginning of movie:
Guy taking out the trash - "Hey, you missed me."
Garbagemen - "No we didn't."
*takes out uzis and blows his stomach apart*

Put the knife away .. and shut your mouth.
Your soldiers make me laugh. If Matrix was here, he'd laugh too.

I haven't seen this movie in years, and still remember almost every line of dialogue (if you can really call it that ).

"We'll take Cook's car .. he won't be needing it"

"Right?"
"Wrong"

From memory the guy who played Bennet was aussie... Vernon Wells ?

Yup.

Oh, and, "let off some steam, Bennett!"

I loved Raw Deal, for no other reason than they made Arnold say, "molested, murdered, and mutilated."

Believe it or not, i haven't seen Raw Deal yet.

However, being the movie made between Commando & Predator ... i think i can guess how it goes

Am I the only one who liked The Rundown, with The Rock and Seann William Scott? Likeable characters, stylish gunplay, a guy getting hit in the head with a burning lump of wood, and both Rosario Dawson and Christopher Walken. A non-stop thrill ride, as they say.

Also, The Matrix. But only the first one.

The Transporter and The Transporter 2 - noteworthy for, respectively, Statham ringing the doorbell before he busts in on a bunch of guys, and Statham beating up a bunch of guys using a mounted firehose.

Die Hard
Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Last Crusade
The Killer
Hard Boiled
Predator

The street shootout in Heat has some of the most brilliant sound I've ever heard.
