Efficient Hotel in NYC

Hey guys I got a job offer in NYC and I'm going to be checking out living locations over my Thanksgiving break (I will be there over the weekend). I need an effecient (best for the value) hotel. Is it too cheap of me to be looking for something around $150 per night within city limits? If not any recommendations outside city limits that would be a short hop to Queens or Manhattan?

Basically I need advice on hotels whether specific hotels or "no way" in this price range if anyone has any. I don't know much about the city...thanks.

150$ is sufficient to get a room in Manhattan. Just find one on expedia or something. I stayed at the Empire for 120$ before.

Are you planning on living in the city? If not, I would recommend getting a cheap rental car or zip car so you can drive around the areas where you want to check out (queens, brooklyn, manhattan...bronx?) I honestly don't know much about the rates or best places to stay in the city, but expedia would definitely be a start. As a point of reference, Empire is close to Columbus Circle/Lincoln Center. It's a bit of a train/cab ride down to soho/les, but definitely manageable.

Check one of those priceline forums for bidding tactics and expected prices (people post what they have successfully booked) and then priceline the shit out of it.

May still be hard since it is thanksgiving but I would guess it is doable.

Thanksgiving weekend many people who live in NYC will be away. Try renting someone's apartment. No clue what the going rates are though.

Congrats! What's the job? Check out craigslist for weekend apartment rentals.

I would like too. I think I would like to. lol. I've never been there. The job is in Queens and I found a couple of different apartments in Queens online that look decent.

They do that for hotels too?

Not a bad idea but I'm always hesitant about craigslisting living areas. (see the Roommate Horror stories threak)

Thank you! It is an account management position at a wireless communication dealership for public services. I've been trying to insure my first job would be in this industry for the past year. Finally paid off.
