NBA 2016-2017 Season Thread - Page 571

so the US Olympic roster was announced. we are going to get eaten alive by Spain inside.

after the top 9 was set in stone a long time ago, they pick Blake, Iguodala and Harden. Blake is a very poor fit for the international game since he's a poor shooter, defender and post passer, but i do understand that we are desperate for big men and at least he can be devastating if the Americans get out into the open floor.

Harden and Iguodala make no sense, though. you have no size and are overloaded with swingmen, so you pick two more? fine, Iggy may be good for an end-of-bench defensive stopper on the wing if the designated defensive hounds (CP3, Kobe, Lebron) get gassed or in foul trouble, but Harden has no use on this team - he's supposed to be there as someone who's "comfortable scoring from off the bench", but the way he does that in OKC is to have the entire offense set screens for him and then have him go on ball-stopping isos - that's not gonna happen on this team

as inexperienced as he is, i'd be more inclined to go with Anthony Davis - he at least is a backup center since the US team has exactly one (Chandler). this team doesn't have a single shot blocker

He got hurt though, so they didn't have a chance to see him in action before a decision needed to be made.

Lakers odds of winning 2012-13 championship are 8-1 with Nash.

Edit- They were 12-1.

I disagree with your assessment of Harden. He's not bad scoring off the ball- when hes hot, he can really stroke the 3. He's great at getting to the line (in transition and off a pass in a set). All this iso stuff is generally out of necessity because he's the only true scoring threat OKC has when Durant and Westbrook are sitting. Now 100% agree with the redundancy of picking two swingmen- and furthermore it's obvious that they built this team around athleticism... why pick what is probably the slowest footed lottery guard ever?

Boston after Courtney Lee now, I really want the Lakers or Clippers to make a run at him. He's a good 2-guard off the bench.

I bet Gasol plays his ass off for his national team, fuck him.

Can someone quickly explain the 12-1 and 8-1 odds to me? I feel like I should know having taken statistics redface.gif

I think it's if you bet 10 and you win you get 120. If you bet against them you have to bet 120 to win 10

So the ratio of winnings increase if you bet $100, $1000 respectively?

Appreciate the explanation

You don't bet against odds. You take the other selections available.

With odds, generally.

since the 12-1 odds and 8-1 odds have been explained I'll explain how the other popular odds you'll see:

often you'll see something like +400 or -400

when you see the above its under the assumption that you'll be betting $100 and what your winnings will be if you win the bet. or how much you have to bet to have a payout of $100.

a +400 means that you're betting the underdog and if you bet $100 you'll get $400.

a -400 means that you're betting the favorite and you need to bet $400 to win $100.

note: you don't actually have to bet exactly $100, or even in $100 increments, but the bookie will compute the same ratio anyway.

the online betting sites love using the +/- method because its so easy to raise/lower the odds/payouts incrementally and instantaneously especially if the betting action is wild. so its always a good idea to see what the betting lines are for a sporting even really early (like hours after NFL playoff day results) because thats where you'll see the best value (largest odds against an underdog or smallest point spread for the favorite).

I'm still unsure how well Griffin will do against international players but dude is about to blow around the world if he can get a few of those dunks a game.
