The Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to a deal in principle with the league-owned New Orleans Hornets to acquire guard Chris Paul, according to sources close to the process.

The Clippers, sources said, will send guard Eric Gordon, center Chris Kaman, forward Al-Farouq Aminu and Minnesota's unprotected 2012 first-round pick to the Hornets for Paul.

The Clippers will also receive two future second-round picks, according to sources.

The deal is expected to be approved by the league Wednesday night, sources said.

So deal isn't done yet? lol8[1].gif

that's a fantastic idea. Don't do shit for the league above and beyond trying to win basketball games.

As a fan, I'm in a tough spot....I wish ill upon David Stern and "the league" but i Want to continue rooting for and watching my team play.

All we can hope for now is for the Lakers to win it all this year and for Mitch and Kobe to kick Stern in the teeth at the trophy presentation.

Will they? They just signed Jordan to a huge contract and then have to sign Griffin & CP3 to max deals. I don't think there is enough room for D12 after all of those are said and done.

I hope the Hornet knows that Eric Gordon is a restricted FA after this season...

shit, I forgot about jordan. they are probably regretting that now. but they would have the space with only the cp3 and griffin extensions.

As a Laker fan I hope not.
With Howard staying put, nobody of talent is up for trade. There is no reason for Mitch to make a stupid trade. LA will have some money to sign people next year or in 2012. They also still have the pieces to make trades(Gasol, Bynum, 1st round picks,...).

Edit- Also, remember the Lakers have actually gotten younger this year.

The thing is, they needed Jordan. If he left, then they'd have no center since Kaman was traded. They'd have a less attractive team and they have to win to keep Paul from leaving. Not only that but Deandre is Griffin best friend, his signing is also a way to keep Griffin happy and stay. I don't think they really need D12 with Griffin though, that's great duo on paper but they need a more solid SG or SF. They should try and get Wilson Chandler if he ever gets out of China.

Vegas is giving the Lakers 11/2 odds to win the championship.

The Heat are the favorite to win the championship this year at 5/2 odds, according to VegasInsider.com. The top five is rounded out by the Lakers at 11/2, Chicago at 13/2, Oklahoma City at 7/1 and Boston and the defending-champion Dallas Mavericks tied at 8/1.

I think the Clips still aren't going to be great this year. Gordon was their scorer, he's gone now in the trade. Unless CP is gonna put up points in a hurry, Blake's gonna have to put up bigger numbers. I don't think he's got a good (or even existant) post game, or mid range shot. They still have 4 point guards at this time counting CP. Gonna be a strange season this year

Howard will not stay put.
Hornets got a good deal, not immediately better then what the LAkers offered but younger and with far more upside. People don't seem to realize it but almost every team is built in the draft. Unprotected #1 in a deep draft is worth a mint. And thanks to a rookie pay scale they don't have to over pay and can chase free agents to go with a talented young team.

Lakers are fuxxored for now but there are plenty of options left. D12 for one, I really don't see Orlando keeping him. The real issue for the ALkers are Brown and Buss, can Brown coach and can Buss get over himself and let Mitch do his thing.

As for teams that are well positioned, how about OKC. No drama, good chemistry, kept all their players, added some depth, signed their picks, and they're a year more mature.

Dallas played this right. Will be back on top sooner rather than later.

Extra good new for the Clips:

ESPNSteinLine Marc Stein
.....CP3 opts in for 2012-13, so Clips assured two years of Blake/CP3

CP3/Billups/Mo/Bledsoe
Foye
Butler/Gomes
Griffin
Jordan

Trade Mo for back-up center or try and re-sign Craig Smith, or trade for another SG. Develop their rookies (Hubbard, Koch, Leslie, etc.. no clue who these guys are lol8[1].gif ). Or Amnesty Mo and get Jamal Crawford? That will be a solid team.
