That seemed to be the case with the Lakers the past two years. Last year it was Artest imploding and before that Pau being weak.
I don't think Chicago can afford another star player w/o letting anyone go.
That is true but who can Chicago give for a trade that will equal Carmelo? Unless Denver is going to accept Deng plus scrubs for Melo, I just do not see it happening. If I were Denver, I wouldn't take anyone less than Rose for Melo, maybe add Deng or Noah with Rose.
First, no way that Chicago would give up Rose. Second, Denver is freaking out that they'll end up with nothing just like Toronto and Cleveland did. They have very limited options at this point and none of the suitors really have much to offer. They're better off taking a pu-pu platter and some picks than getting nothing at all. If Chicago offered Deng, Heinrich, and a couple of #1's I think they'd jump at it.
