Then, the reaction from the town with the player that "made 2 HOF coaches retire in the same year":

Oh, sorry, I did forget. D Rose also made my short-term memory retire. Look, nobody hates on Rose. He's the MVP. But, really....

These are the worst kind of sports fans - guys who just beat their chests and spout obnoxious nonsense. I personally think that this thread talks about the Lakers waaay too much, but at least you Laker fans usually come with facts and we can at least have a basketball conversation. I think it was a mistake for Pop not to try to seal up home court in the Finals. The way the Bulls are playing, they have to be considered the favorites to come out of the East. I have to fact check this, but didn't they run the table against the other top-4 seeds in the last month or so? And the Spurs had a very winnable game last night - the full strength Lakers struggled against their bench and lost Bynum in the process....

They weren't full strength for 2.5 quarters.

So the wait on Bynum's knee begins. Once again, his health is going to determine how far we go in the playoffs this year.

Seriously, what an unbelievably bad way to end the season.

Once again, Louis CK is the voice of reason...

Louis CK actually wrote the similar Chris Rock bit about how he's ok being called a "faggot" while singing No Doubt's "Don't Speak" during a green light at an intersection. True story: i was outside of the TD Garden and two cab drivers (a black guy and a white guy) were just busting on each other calling themselves Jew and Eggplant. Everyone thought they were about to brawl... it turns out they were friends and actually going out to a bar later.

Two hours later, Bynum said he felt OK.

"It's not really that bad," he said as he walked out of the locker room. "It was painful right when it happened but it's not that bad right now."

He took long strides, forcing a pack of reporters to walk briskly to keep up with him.

I hope that's a good sign.

yeah, i'm keeping my fingers crossed. with a guy who has been injured that much, there's always the chance that he just got a good strain that scared the shit out of him. my guess is that he still doesn't trust that knee (and, honestly, neither do I). on the bright side, if it is just a strain, getting a few scares that he pulls through will only build his confidence in it.

They went much of the year without 1 of both of their 2 best players in Noah and Boozer yet still managed this record. Thibs gets my vote for coach of the year as well.

But if you take that record out of the equation, MVP has to be Dwight Howard or LBJ. And I HATE LBJ. But it's called most valuable..look at the Cavs without LBJ..worst team in the league. Look at the Heat with LBJ..instant contenders. How can he not be the most valuable? And same with D12..he's playing with scrubs out there. He plays at a high level on both ends of the floor night in and night out, 2nd in rebounds, 2nd in blocks, 2nd in fg%, top 10 in scoring and without him the Magic is a lottery team.

Basically I think Rose is only deserving because of that record. Without it I would make the case for D12 or LBJ.

You make great points. Except for LeBrat over Rose. My personal opinion is that Miami would still have been a very good team with Bosch & Wade. I don't think Bulls are nearly as good without Rose. Tibs has built a great defense (again) and they would have been pretty decent wthout Rose but I don;t think they have that "1" guy that can score at the end of games when everyone is looking for that person.

Defense does win many championships but still need "the guy" to close out NBA games.

I do agree with you on Howard. Hard to fathom where Orlando would be without him.

Do you really think that Sloan retired because of 1 night his team got soundly beaten. I think that might have, just maybe happened before in his 2,000+ games he has coached. And he has had some tough teams before as well. It is well reported about his frustrations with DW. Highly unlikely that it was a combination of things that led to his in season retiremnt. But a beating from another team is very likely at the bottom of the list.

And then you are arguing that Kobe was the best player for every year over 13 years? Umm, OK. Neither was Chamberlin, Jordan, Johnson, Bird, Robertson or anyone else. I personally would take Duncan over Kobe but it's a good arguement and Kobe has been one of the best for a long time.

Rose is a dynamic player and maybe will win MVP. But he has not been the best player in the league for his 1st 3 years. Gifted player that by many reports, is a hard worker and puts in a lot of effort to get better. But I think there is also an arguement that Kevin Durant has been a better player than Rose this year.
