NFL: Chuck Howley (1971)
MLB: Bobby Richardson (1960)
NHL: 5 different times, most recently Jean-Sebastien Giguere (2003)

While I didn't witness any of them, it's tough to believe they could've done much more than what LeBron has for his team (and relatively speaking, I think no one on GS has even been playing at an All-Star Level and this is against a team of mostly backups outside LeBron).

I saw a couple of the Giguere games. Even as somebody who knows bupkis about hockey, I can confidently say he didn't suck.

ugh fuck lebron, so overrated. he's clearly losing because he doesn't want it enough. what a chump. lechoke, is right? 40 points a game is nothing. mj would have gotten 50 - 60 a night. what a pussy too, soft ass nba today without hand checking. also lebron has a small penis.

this post is so fucking dumb.

if your standard is most valuable lebron should win the award 4x over. the cavs without bron would be scoring 40 pts a night, the warriors could probably win without steph curry.

what lebron is doing right now is probably the most impressive thing ive seen in professional sports. he's dragged a team of absolute fucking nobodies to the nba finals. they swept the hawks (the best team in the east for much of the season) with a cast of lebron, an injured kyrie and a bunch of cast offs from the knicks. it's like a mlb team winning a world series with 1 pitcher. statistically, the average player on the cavs (minus love and kyrie) are below replacement level.

the statistics speak for themselves: http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/lebron-james-may-go-down-as-the-greatest-loser-ever/

Just read this little fact about the Cavs in the Finals.

"When James is on the court, the Cavaliers score 97.2 points per 100 possessions. When he is off the court, they score 54.6 points per 100 possessions."

fivethirtyeight has some really fantastic articles on sports and data. really enjoy them

It's official.  Lance Stephenson has been traded to the Clips for Matt Barnes and Spencer Hawes.  GM Doc making moves.

Honestly, if Doc can keep Stephenson's head on straight and if Paul Pierce signs with the Clips to reunite with Rivers like all the rumors are saying so there's another veteran in the locker room to keep everyone in line, I think the Clips might actually make it to the Western Conference Finals next season (assuming DeAndre Jordan re-signs with the team).

Sounds like a really shitty trade to me. Ugh

No kidding. I couldn't even tell what they were talking about saying he flashed the cameras tucking in his shirt.

Really did not want to lose Barnes but he is getting older and Hawes was worthless, Stephenson is still young and just needs someone to tell him off.

They're going to need a reliable back-up center though.

Actually, statistics don't speak for themselves. The article you linked didn't explain why you think they do. Did you write it?

That aside, I think the issue is pretty simple. The only currency that matters in the nba is wins. it's funny that anybody would bend over backward to justify why lebron should get a finals mvp for losing a series that he hasn't even lost yet. or for that matter, finished playing. if he benches himself with "cramps" in the third quarter tomorrow, is he still the mvp?

i'm sort of surprised that nobody on this thread has offered an adjustment that would help the cavs force a game 7... frankly i thought it was kind of an odd choice to go small and play the w's game. i thought mosgov has been very good in this series, so why give up a huge rebounding advantage and shot-blocking while playing to the w's tempo?

anyways, as far as I'm concerned, the verdict is out. i guess i'll wait to see how game 6 goes, and, if necessary, game 7.

Zach Lowe wondered this in his last podcast. He said that they Cavs should just play their best lineup and dominate the glass and offensive rebounding against a team playing a 6' 7" guy at center.

Giants did just that last year with MadBum and a bunch of broken pitchers. Not trying to diminish what Lebron is doing, just saying.

the way is see it Cavs played their game in match g4, they played warriors game in g5... they lost both
maybe they can still win, but they won't beat dubs at dubs own game, so I sort of agree that going big
and pounding the glass along with another 40-10-10 from LeBron is their best shot.

low risk high reward for Clippers
It's not low risk. Lance fucked up both his former teams by his mere presence, although it's arguable whether his contributions to the Pacers outweighed his being a clown.

Doc has a decent chance of making it work, as he was able to get the most out of a knucklehead like Rondo. He also has the fabulously bitchy Chris Paul to also keep him in line

Truth.  Great player but I cannot stand his constant complaints and flopping.  This permeates the league but CPIII leads the pack.
